heavy metal is bands like led zeppelin, kiss, black sabbath etc.
whereas death metal is bands like otep, cradle of filth, and early mudvayne
so death metal is more growling and screaming |

No one here aside from Tato knows what death metal is, apparently.
death metal = Death, Morbid Angel, Obscura, Septicflesh, Cryptopsy, Cynic, Atheist, etc. |

The difference is everything!
Death Metal is awful and just too extreme
Heavy Metal is good and has rhythm, usually layered in guitars and vocal choruses.
Now...the best metal is Glam Metal from the 1980s. Glam Metal has catchy choruses, upbeat riffs (or slow), layered vocals and guitars, usually big music to the extreme mix of Rock, metal, Pop Rock, and other stuff. |

| They are both probably generic and they lacking in vibrance and uniqueness, so in that respect there is no difference. |

| Calling Death metal generic is stupid, it's probably one of the least generic genres. Same with heavy metal. They are almost completely different, you are just ignorant. |

| They are "almost completely" different? That sounds like an oxymoron, are they different or not? I have heard enough of both of them to realize that they are both similar, death metal may be more dark, and heavy metal might have more harmony, but other than that their diminutive differences are easily overlooked. |

Almost completely, how can you not understand that. They are almost completely different genres with a few exceptions.
heavy metal: Bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, etc. Death metal: bands like Obituary, Morbid Angel, etc.
I bet you haven't listened to death metal, I bet you just listened to some metalcore and just went UMG IT SOUNDS DA SAME!
Please, tell me which bands you used to come up with that theory.

| Sometimes, especially times like these, I honestly wonder why I am so deluded to actually presume that some people will even undertand or care what my various points are. I never said, claimed, or even implied that I did not understand it, I was pointing out how it was logical contradiction. Just look up what an oxymoron is and it will all become clear (it is to be hoped). I have listened to both, and both of the cacaphonous excuses for trash can choirs give me headaches, and have the same power chords, screaming, and generic musical overkill themes. Give me more than 2 examples where they are obviously different. |

If you think they are similar you are an idiot.

Heavy metal: Accept and motorhead
Death metal: Bloodbath and Purulent Infection. |
