It wasn't even programming; it was a flowchart system so child friendly you didn't even realise it was generating BASIC for you.
The flowchart went roughly
let var1 = 0 [arrow] if var1 == 20 [no arrow] [the 'yes' arrow goes to the end box] let var1 = var1 + 1 output 1 high delay 200 output 1 low delay 200 [arrow to the 'if' box]
I suppose in Lua this would be
var1 = 0 repeat var1 = var1 + 1 -- output 1 high wait(0.2) -- output 1 low wait(0.2) until var1 == 20
so my teacher shows us this and of course the class is like LOLWUT
he points to let var1 = var + 1 and asks what it does
some kid: IT TURNS A LIGHT ON
.
later after leik 10 minutes of explanation
teacher's like AND THAT'S HOW IT LOOPS 20 TIMES
guy behind me: THAT'S GENIUS!

orite
We spent a couple of lessons on the actual program - nearly all the rest of it was coursework.
the freaking flow chart program has no tables / arrays

i'm sure the use of variables completely confused them
in the same way that
10 + a = 11
would confuse an 8 yo |

A question; what is that class supposed to do, teach you another programming language or so?
Also be patience, maybe later on you get to the more interesting (advanced) stuff. |

nah, we're nearly at the end of the class
As to what we do, apart from coursework, it's mostly circuitboards and stuff. Learning about electricity and resistance and capicators and st00f. |

"but I thought computers were programmed in windows" |

@Aaa: I believe that the best way to tell him the correct thing after that sentece is:
"It is programmed yes, but not in windows as windows is not an exsisting programming language. The windows Operating System is programmed in C++ and C# and the windows OS does most things on the computer. |

^ electricity is what makes your computer work resistance is basically to do with how well an object carries electricity

Bet it does. If this is anything like I think it is, the chip has a "scratchpad" - a 256 byte chunk of addressable memory. Look for a "read" or "write" command.
> making a memory game where a sequence must be stored
That was actually what I did for my AS Electronics Microprocessor coursework. It annoyed the hell out of half the class because I found a speaker, but the other half loved playing it. |

@sdfgw: What?
@Ever: Yes I know how they look, but thanks for the effort. I have also learned at Sience (prop has a different translation in dutch) that the 'runways' (iron-looking stripes that transfer electricity) s I like to call them come more closer to each other, because of more procceses and memory. |

eh, all the numbers are ints and are modular between 0 and 255.
40 * 40 = 144
ye
I checked EVERY command, looked through the handbook, nothing. You needed a separate download to actually be able to write BASIC, and that kind of thing is blocked.
I wound up storing the sequence in a number, using base 4 (given there are four possible buttons).
Also had a laugh with tone(pitch, duration), one of the more flexible commands. Got it to play the entertainer. |
