I always call it GNU/Linux because I care about spreading the idea of freedom that originated from it. I also believe that the history of the project is important and just calling the system correctly is in fact already important in itself to me.
Most persons that disagree with this think GNU just wants credit. They do want credit, but that's not the main reason. |

"Obvious Julian alt is Obvious."
Lolno, that's not my alt.
Plus he said he usually calls it GNU plus Linux. I call it GNU and Linux. That proves it's not me. :) |

"What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux."

"They do want credit, but that's not the main reason."
Prove it to me. Reading their page, they seem to try and cover it up as some other stupid thing that I don't understand, but the main idea is still basically "WE WANT CREDIT PLEASE WAAAH PEOPLE ARE NAMING OPERATING SYSTEMS OFF OF THE KERNEL AND NOT THE SOFTWARE AND WE PUT IN OUR LICENSES THAT THEY'RE ALLOWED TO DO THAT BUT IT'S NOT FAIR THEY SHOULD GIVE US CREDIT AND PUT OUR PROJECT FIRST IN THE NAME EVEN!" |

"some other stupid thing that I don't understand"
If you understood it, you'd understand that they don't do it for the credit. |

And I don't understand it, so there's a problem. I honestly don't see any other reason for it. What else are they complaining about but credit?
There are times where I agree GNU/Linux should be used, but a good deal of the time they can get their panties out of a knot, man up, and accept that it's gonna be called Linux because it's based off of the Linux kernel, even if there's a good deal of GNU software in there. People call Windows what it is because it's based off of the Windows NT kernel. When addressing each version, they use the codename. This is similar with Linux distributions. When people talk about them as a whole, they say Linux because they're based off of the Linux kernel. When addressing each distribution, they use the distribution name. Now, you could argue that people simply call it Windows because Microsoft develops all their own software, but then it's my belief that if you have to make such an argument you're desperate to prove me wrong. |

| People don't call Windows that way because it uses the Windows NT Kernel... They call it Windows because that's its name. The Windows NT Kernel was named that way because it was made for Windows NT, just like NTFS was named NTFS because it was made for Windows _NT_. |

And the Linux kernel is called Linux because it was made for Linux. That's why people call their distributions Linux. They're based off of the Linux kernel. Windows is based off of the Windows kernel. |
