It's a new concept made by some guys:http://seasteading.org/
They're applying an incrementalist ideal (i.e. dont try to build 18 million dollar self-sufficient platforms for 4000 people each from day one) meaning that the movement isn't very likely to lose credibility because of fanciful plans. |

Firstly, not necessarily.
Second, there isn't a uber-secrecy going on like bioshock.
One of the main reasons that seasteading movement exists is to provide a large freedom to explore new ideas for government, then inspire change around the world. |

>But the underlying philosophy is still the same. Capitalism = Free and government intervention in the economic system = Evil, which is only half true
>From what I've read, they're only experimenting in libertarian-capitalist ideologies.
Wrong. Each individual seastead will be free to try whatever system they thinks works best. |

| Also, their FAQ states that the movement is not only for libertarians. |

| Ugh. I think you are getting the wrong ideas about the movement (which I support.) |

"Seasteads are thus expected to be able to turn a profit, which necessarily implies a capitalist mode of production and distribution."
That most of the community there is capitalist doesn't mean that it can't be used for communism. |

Same thing can be done with the game Nomic, especially if you remove the points part and just make it a game of creating new rules. |

>It most likely won't, since communists are often excluded de facto from the community. The project is mostly made up of libertarians, and mostly funded by libertarians.
But when economies of scale set in and more and more seasteads are founded, it is inevitable that anarcho-communist groups (as well as other non-libertarians) will create their own seasteads, ergo you can explore new ideas other than liberal capitalism. |

| Sounds like a pretty cool idea, but not sure I'd want to do it. |

So? If it appeals to only libertarians it appeals to only libertarians. There's nothing preventing non-libertarian groups from founding their own seasteads.

But you haven't addressed the fact that anarcho-communists and other non-libertarians, when seasteads become more widespread, will still have the option to found their own seastead community. There's nothing stopping them.
Also, you refer to this as a 'project'. It is not a project; the Institute will not directly build a seastead itself, rather fund their creation as stated in the FAQ. |
