- Vim isn't a full IDE, but it's a pretty decent code editor - SciTE has some options for compiling/running scripts, but still not full IDE - Emacs? It's probably good if you can learn how to use it - Eclipse has a lot of features, but might be a bit heavy - Code::Blocks, I haven't tried on Linux, I'm going to guess this is the best option for you.. |

Vim. Once you learn it with the Vimtutor command, you will love it. |

well.. it's not a full IDE, but I use vim sometimes. I, though, really prefer to use SciTE, since it looks and feels a lot like I think vim would feel if it were a GUI; plus, I can do GUI-related things that are difficult with vim, such as copy/paste, unicode support (in some terminals), and the like; but yes, it's very good for a command-line code editor.
then, use g++/whatever standard compiler/interpreter your language uses, then you're set! |

| bunnybunn, just install Gvim if you're looking for a gui version of Vim. It has a few simple drop down menus that every other IDE has, except it still has all the coolness of Vim. |

Why, which distro did you switch to? No matter which one it is, you should be able to compile Geany from source.
I personally use a mix of gEdit (With a terminal in the bottom panel, install gedit-plugins. I use this for development on my netbook) and Geany (Normal set up, I use this for making the website and some C on my desktop). When I need to I use a program called Terminator and have Vim running in the far left, a normal terminal on the bottom right, and a python terminal in the top right. |

There's no need for a IDE program on Linux, for Linux is an IDE itself.
Just Vim and a kewl terminal. |
