The land of Arlathar was in turmoil. Their new king, Vinrad III, turned out to be a rather poor choice, ignoring the wise words of his advisers and breaking trade with Berthel and Sandor, instead initiating war on them. Instead of appointing experienced and battle-hardened generals, he placed his friends in their positions at their request, leading to many defeats and few victories. The loss of manpower for the war effort drove the king to forcefully conscript peasants and farmers into the war, with the generals often sending them straight into the battlefield with no orders other than to kill the enemy, which naturally leads to their demise. King Vinrad III blamed his advisers for not giving him good advice, and had them all beheaded.
That wasn't all. The lack of men to work in the fields and make sure their crops are growing soon led to poor harvests and famine. King Vinrad III liked his food, and so he stubbornly refused to distribute the contents of the royal storehouses out to the people of Arlathar. Soon, winter arrived. And not just any winter, an exceptionally long one, with blizzards and snowstorms that blocked out the sun in the day, and the moon at night. It was an unnatural event of nature, and one that proved to be deadly. King Vinrad III fell ill, and soon died. Now with famine, an empty throne, and a war that has claimed countless lives, Arlathar looked about ready to fall, to remain nothing more than a few dusty tomes in an obscure library. The cruel, relentless winter pressed onward, engulfing Arlathar in misery.
It gets worse.
The kingdom of Ondarys, a very wealthy country with a very vain king, had a rivalry with Arlathar. The king in power decided to send a fleet of ships to Arlathar, being separated from the other kingdom by a large stretch of sea. Their objective? Seize control of the kingdom by any means possible. Or, if not possible, take as much marble as possible so that more statues could be erected in Ondarys. The king of Ondarys sent his best order of knights and a good deal of commoners. The Knights of the Gold Shield were supposedly the best knights in Ondarys, though this meant that Ondarys had some pretty bad knights. First, they're vain and go into combat either wearing fanciful clothing, or armor so heavily decorated that it is rendered useless. Second, they get their name from their pure gold shields, which besides being extremely heavy, can't deflect anything due to gold being a soft metal, and the shield being thin. The commoners are there as servants and whatnot, and are pulled from the local villages to transport gold and marble from Arlathar once the knights pillage the place. When they arrive, they find themselves in trouble, too. Their clothing is designed for the balmy and steaming climate of Ondarys, not this bitterly cold winter. The foolish knights press onward to pillage the undefended towns, instead of fleeing back to Ondarys like any sensible man would do.
They'll soon find out that they'll have to learn fast and break away from their pampered life to survive in Arlathar, enveloped by the burdening winter.
Now, are you a Knight of the Gold Shield, or one of the commoners? Come now, you can't be anyone else!

(Full Name, as in your full hereditary name, such as Gregory Caius Lamiel IV, or something.) (Title, as in "Sir", or "of Cousland".) (The rank is for Gold Shield Knights, which often influence the title.) |

Full Name: Medon Vait Mailis II Title: Sir Medon If of the Gold Shield, Rank: knight Years: 35 Gender: Male Physical Appearance: medium framed, and slightly taller than most people, he has short blonde hair and bright green eyes. He has a small beard forming. Garments: He wears a bright royal red cloak, with yellow bands running down the sides of it, under his arms. His pants are a smooth cloth, dyed dark red. he also wears an orange scarf, with a yellow line running down the middle. He usually uses it to cover his mouth, and wraps it around his neck, leaving one end to hang down loosely, the other higher up, but still visible. Armor, if any: He has thin iron shoulder pads, which provide minimal protection. under his robes he has thin greaves which provide minimal protection as well. on his arms, visibly he wears gauntlets which seem to connect to his garments, made of slightly thicker iron, to protect his hands. in addition to the other things, he wears a thin chest plate under his garments as well. Last but not least, he wears an armet style helmet, but the front visor has been removed to make room for his scarf. it has been adjusted so the lack of visor does not look out of place. The helmet has a relatively large yellow plume shooting out from it. Weaponry: he has a silver lance, The handle is encrusted with gems and gold, the rest is polished to be incredibly smooth. he also carries a small satchel, in which is small pottery vials which contain oil, as well as a small rope to act as a fuse. When lit, he tosses the vial and it breaks on whatever it was thrown at, covering it in oil and igniting it. (this is actually a historical weapon, I forget what they're called) Miscellaneous Equipment: Nothing really Personal Objects: he has a small reflective coin, which has the insignia of his family on it. the insignia is a royal red and yellow swan, made artfully. Short Biography: He came from a wealthy family, which is well known for controlling a large portion of the silk industry, his father loved hunting in the wild with bows and arrows, Medon was never interested in ranged weaponry though. He was quickly brought into training to become a knight. He stands strongly for the glory of the kingdom and has always tried to help people lower on the social ladder. He values orders over most else and will rarely stray from a mission. He was eager to assist in this military campaign.
Is that good? |

OoC; Warhammer and longer bio? got it.
The Warhammer is made from obsidian, and decorated with gold (you know, the Golden Shield thing? similarity?)
Bio: My parents were killed, being convicted of thievery, murder, and arson, two days after my birth. Three very good friends if their's cared for me and told me of their death, after finding me on the street, alone. As my birthday came, I was given a toy hammer, which I tinkered much with. Soon, as I grew into a young man, I began to use a Warhammer, a pickaxe to mine metals and such, a normal hammer, and anvil. I then began continuos studying of blacksmithing under the previous blacksmith, working under his ways. Soon, I began working with the goldsmith, crafting golden leaves, which I never got right very few times, and made very slowly, while all other apprentices made them with ease. When I returned to blacksmithing, I felt more situated, and began to stick with that occupation.
Hurhurhur. |

(Yes, yes. That is suitable, macaw5.) (Oh, and it's called Greek Fire. Or, let's just refer to it as Fire of Ondarys for now.) |
