Please discuss/tell me anything wrong with this list, before I ask an administrator to post it as a sticky. Thanks
- Quenty (TIRED OF SPAM/BANS) ---------------------
Before posting to the scripters forum, please read over this list applying to your post.
To Newcomers: Understand this forum is a forum about scripting, or making ROBLOX do what we want.
Before you ask ABOUT or FOR anything, please:
1) Read the Frequently Asked Questions (wiki.roblox.com/index.php/FAQ) 2) Search for your answer (www.roblox.com/Forum/Search/default.aspx) 3) Do not post requests for scripts. Do not post requests for helps. Please see the scripters helpers forum. (www.roblox.com/Forum/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=20) 4) THINK...
We have a lot of forum sections, but it seems a lot of people post here before checking anywhere else.
Before you post, go back to the main forum page and check if there's a better section for your post. Most posts about Roblox will go in Roblox Talk, but there are sections for helping you with building, scripting, and technical issues, as well sections for suggestions, your clan, and selling your hats/gears.
Is your post not about Roblox? We have a general Off-Topic section, but there are specific sections for TV shows/Movies/Books, role-playing, sports, music, forum-games, and even posting in other languages! If you're not sure which section it fits in, or it doesn't fit in any of those, post it in Off-Topic or PM a mod.
Posting in the wrong section will get your post locked or moved. If you're not sure why it was locked, PM a mod and they will explain. If you continue to post in the wrong section, they will be considered spam and you will get in trouble for it.
------------------------------ Also understand that:
1. The scripters forum is not a group, it is a forum. You do not need to ask to join, you cannot be banished from it, it does not compete with other forums, including C&G. If you do want to create a group for this forum, use Roblox's Create a Group system ( http://www.roblox.com/My/CreateGroup.aspx *you must have BC, TBC or OBC). Keep all talk about the group on the group's wall.
2. The scripters forum isn't your diary. Don't post things like "I'm back" or "I'm going to bed, bye". If you want to let people to know what you're doing, update your status on your profile. Things like how your soccer game went are ok.
3. Understand that we will not tollerate C&G wars, or other forum wars. Please create a group and start a war with C&G that way.
4. DO NOT SHOUT. We can read it quite fine without the capitals. Please don't do it.
5. You need to make sense. Typing lyk thz iz n0t kewl.
6. You only need one exclamation point or question mark. It's annoying when people post 'How do I do this?????!?!?!?!?'
7. Thread titles should be specific. These are not good titles:
• "Help" • "Please help" • "I need help" • "Can you help" • "HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!" (if you post like this you WILL be banned) • "Tutorial request" • "Feature request" • "Plugin request" • "Looking for..." • "Looking for a tutorial / plugin" • "I'm a newbie" • "Hello" • "I'm new"
This kind of title pollutes the forum, and makes it hard to find and navigate it. Please write the subject line for the receiver of the message - in this case, the people who will be helping you. You know we don't have to help you, right?
8. Be courteous to others. Constructive criticism is generally welcome and encouraged. Starting fights and being rude is not. However, if your post or tutorial, or idea is really lame, don't be offended when we say as much (By the way, the moderators will generally and almost always follow this rule, but are not required to if circumstance warrants it -- which is at their own discretion.)
9. Don't reply to very old threads. Also known as "reviving" or "resusitating" old/dead threads. If there has been no discussion in a thread for 3 months ... then it is dead. Do not reply to it -- pretend like it is locked. If you reply to it, then the thread will be immediately locked and your post may be deleted. Just create a new thread.
10. Don't try creating new "official" threads for things. For example, "post all plugin requests here!" If the moderators want to reorganize or officiate things, then we will -- that's our job, not yours.
11. Please note that due to the overuse of the forum extension(s) padding your posts with rather unwanted information will be considered spam. This includes but not limited to,
- Multi-line signatures - Links/Images of any kind - Quoting blobs of other's post just to bloat the page
12. This forum is not for requests. Don't come in here asking for a script. Nobody will make it and everyone will yell at you. Seriously, this isn't the forum for asking how to script or asking for someone to make it for you.
This forum is for discussion of advanced scripting concepts. If you want to ask questions like "How do I work with metatables?" then that is fine.
DO NOT ASK FOR PEOPLE TO DO THE WORK FOR YOU.
13. Don't ask to be a moderator, an admin, or anything else here. Wiki writers will be selected by administrators, and you can apply to become one when a thread that is pinned to the top appears. Please be patient.
14. Don't create useless polls.
15. All scripter forum activity must be in ENGLISH. NO Base64, Binary, ect. DO NOT DO IT. If you're using it to circumvent the filter, then you will get reported, and banned.
16. Stay on topic. Moderators will not tolerate attempts to get off topic.
17. Don't feed the trolls. If you notice someone is trolling the forum, don't respond to them. A mod will deal with them soon enough. This includes SPAM posts - don't respond to them, report them.
18. Do not swear. This includes "ASCII Swearing" where letters are replaced by symbols/numbers in an attempt to get around the autocensor.
19. Do not 'bump' your own thread unless it has received 0 replies and it has been 24 hours since you posted it. You may not bump a thread more than once. ('Bumping' refers to posting simply to get your post moved to the top of the list--"Is anyone listening?", "I really need some help here!", "Can't anyone help me?", "Help!", "bump", "up", etc.)
20. Never 'bump' someone else's thread.
21. Do not repeat a post above you, or do Combos. That would be posting the same basic thing in a post like this conversation:
User: Hey guys, I found this great feature User1: cOLD mOLD < If you post this, you will get moderator action taken on you User2: cOLD mOLD on a sLATE pLATE < Same here User3: Inplying that that it's old User1: Implying I'm awesome User2: cOLD
22. Please do not bite the newcomers (Information from wikipedia)
Understand that newcomers are both necessary for and valuable to the community. By empowering newcomers, we can improve the diversity of knowledge, perspectives, and ideals in the scripters forum, thereby preserving our community.
If you feel that you must say something to a newcomer about a mistake, please do so in a constructive and respectful manner. Begin by introducing yourself with a greeting on the user's talk page to let them know that they are welcome here, and present your corrections calmly and as a peer. If possible, point out things that they've done correctly or well.
Do not call newcomers disparaging names. Do not say GOBWEY
Assume good faith on the part of newcomers. They most likely want to help out. Give them a chance! They are most likey just ignorant. Point them to this thread.
23. You are expected to abide by the spirit of these rules. What does that mean? That means that if the rule says "Do not talk about purple things" and you post talking about violet things, or lavender things, then you will get banned. (No, you are not being forbidden from talking about purple things. That was just an example). Do not try to find loopholes in the rules. You will be banhammered if you do.
24. No degrading racial comments are allowed. I shouldn't even have to say this. Seriously, you guys. Don't hate.
25. No inappropriate references. There’s no question that Internet is full of degrading inappropriate material and comments. Roblox is fully G-rated, it must be KEPT that way. This will get you instantly banned. If you are not sure if the thing you want to talk about it okay to talk about, PM a mod and ask.
26. No Politics. No Religion. We prefer that members not get involved in political or religious discussions because they often result in flaring tempers and flame wars. Yes, you may make a religious or political shirt. Yes, you may make a religious or political game. No, you may not talk about your political views or religious ideals on the forum. No exceptions.
27. No whining about moderation This mostly applies to the operation and moderation of the online community. Members will be banned, threads removed, and so on based on the clearly defined rules. Publicly bemoaning the operation of the community and the way the rules are enforced will not put you in good favor with the moderators. If you have a legitimate concern or suggestion, PM a moderator. This also includes "pity threads", meaning ones proclaiming you're leaving, my cat died, etc.
28. No dangerous or harmful posts. Posts that encourage members to participate in real-world activities that we deem to be harmful or dangerous to members will be deleted (i.e. lighting things on fire, jumping cars over people, deleting necessary computer files, etc.).
29. No dating topics. This isn't a dating help site. Keep topics about dating and relationships, be it online or not, out of here. Do not post asking for girlfriend advice. Do not post asking for a boyfriend. Do not post talking about the cute girl or boy in your class. Do not post asking how to ask somebody out. There are a lot of places online where you can talk about dating: Roblox is not one of those places. If you are not sure if it's okay to post, do not post it.
30. No Trading. Use the RoblEX for currency trades (My ROBLOX --> Money --> Trade Currency). No other trading is permitted. That means Robux for places, Tickets for places. Tickets for models, guns, ect. You can not hire a scripter. Trading ALSO INCLUDES RAFFLES, PLAYER-RUN CONTESTS, GIVE-AWAYS, ETC. These are NOT allowed.
31. Do not talk about 2012/the end of the world/Armageddon. Some people get scared at the thought of the end of the world. There are little kids on this game - don't scare them. Though some of us already have scared them away.
32. Click the TERMS AND CONDITIONS link at the bottom of the screen and read all the rules there. Then click the COMMUNITY GUIDELINES link and read all those rules, too.
33. Just because you know somebody who broke a rule and didn't get banned does not mean that you get to break that rule, too. Instead of complaining how unfair the mods are, go report the person who got away with breaking the rule.
34. No “this vs. that” posts (ie Ford vs Chevy). These types of threads invoke strong opinions, flaring tempers, and often result in flame wars and mass penalties. These threads will ultimately end up being deleted. It's also off topic.
35. These rules are not complete. They will be updated from time to time. Make sure you check back every few days to see if a new rule has been added. Failure to not know about an update of this forum's rules is NOT AN EXCUSE.
36. This is not Sorcus's inbox. This is not a place to complain to administrators or developers.
37. No Party's. No come to my place things. Places may be used to demonstrate something you've been working on.
NOTE: Spam. Any spam posts will be deleted as soon as they are discovered by a moderator. Do not use alternate accounts to spam. |

Some of the rules seem a tad off, I don't like your Wikipedia quote without a clear reference/citation, etc.
Are these rules meant to be...
1. Rules specifically for the scripters forum 2. All rules for the scripters forum 3. All rules for every forum

Okay, it's done. Tell me what you think, Quenty. =D
---------------------
This is an edit of Quenty's Scripters Forum rules. I edited a lot, moved around various rules, combined others, and left out yet others.
The goal was to make it cleaner and easier to read, as well as to be more concise and simple. I also removed some obvious rules mentioned in other places.
---------------------
Before posting to the scripters forum, please read over this list of rules applying to your posts. These rules are to maintain order in the forum so that everyone has a good time and you don't get banned.
First off, don't post here if there's a better topic for your post. There are other forum topics for asking for scripts, getting help, technical issues and suggestions/ideas, as well as an off-topic forum and a general Roblox discussion topic.
Here's the rules:
1. ---------- This forum is not for requests ----------
Don't come in here asking for a script.
2. ---------- The private messaging system ----------
Sometimes, you have something to tell to a specific person. This is not where you post things like that. If you have something to tell a single person, send them a PM. The forums are a place to discuss things with everyone.
This is not Sorcus's inbox. This is not a place to complain to administrators or developers.
3. ---------- Make your post readable ----------
Don't use cellphone talk. It might be faster to type, but if you really have to use it to type quickly, you should take typing lessons or practice yourself. It's hard to read for everyone else, and it's difficult to take people seriously when they can't even spell.
Using grammar and separating your post in to several paragraphs are also important to keep your post readable. Remember to use commas at pauses and a period at the end of a sentence.
4. ---------- Thread titles should be specific ----------
If you make a new thread, use a title that clearly states the intention of your post. Generally, single-word titles like "Help" or "lol" are not acceptable, as these do not tell people viewing the forum what the thread might be about.
It is also advisable to keep thread titles from being too long. Thread titles that are too long mess up the page formating of the forum. Titles like "Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" are also ugly spam: nobody wants to see it.
5. ----------- Don't insult others ----------
This includes calling them 'stupid'. Though they may indeed be 'stupid', please provide _constructive_ critique. Calling people pejorative names generally hurts their feelings and begins huge fights.
If someone posted in the wrong forum, please either ignore them or kindly redirect them to the forum they should have posted in.
If you don't have something nice to say, sometimes it is best to not say anything at all.
6. ---------- Don't spam ----------
Spam is annoying and wastes time and space on the forums. Spam includes:
- Multi-line signatures - Quoting blobs of other's post just to bloat the page - Advertising competitors' products - Creating useless threads - "inb4" - Repeating what the person above you said - "Bumping" old threads, or bumping your own thread several times in a row
Any spam posts will be deleted as soon as they are discovered by a moderator. Do not use alternate accounts to spam.
7. ----------- Don't ask to be a moderator/wiki writer ----------
Don't ask to be a moderator, an admin, or anything else here. Wiki writers will be selected by administrators, and you can apply to become one when a thread that is pinned to the top appears. Please be patient.
8. ---------- Stay on-topic ----------
There are other forums for posting things not related to scripting. If you need to talk to someone else in the forum, please do so with the chat feature or private messages.
9. ----------- "Don't feed the troll" ----------
A "troll" is someone who is purposefully being obnoxious and generally attempting to elicit strong emotional responses from others. To not "feed" them is to not reply: if you don't reply to them, they'll eventually stop trolling.
10. ----------- Dont' bite newcomers ----------
Someone being new does not give you permission to spam or flame them. Everyone has a right to post here; if they're not breaking the rules, don't bother them. Treat them like anyone else.
Spamming "GOBWEY" toward newcomers is considered spam.
Do not call newcomers disparaging names. Do not say GOBWEY
Assume that the newcomer has the best of intentions: they probably do. Give them a chance! If they're doing something wrong, tell them kindly.
11. ---------- No inappropriate references ----------
There’s no question that Internet is full of degrading inappropriate material and comments. Roblox is fully G-rated, it must be KEPT that way. This will get you instantly banned. If you are not sure if the thing you want to talk about it okay to talk about, PM a mod and ask.
12. ---------- No politics or religion ----------
We prefer that members not get involved in political or religious discussions because they often result in flaring tempers and flame wars. Yes, you may make a religious or political shirt. Yes, you may make a religious or political game. No, you may not talk about your political views or religious ideals on the forum. No exceptions.
These types of threads invoke strong opinions, flaring tempers, and often result in flame wars and mass penalties. These threads will ultimately end up being deleted. It's also off topic.
13. ---------- No whining ----------
This mostly applies to the operation and moderation of the online community.
14. ---------- Read the rules ----------
Click the TERMS AND CONDITIONS link at the bottom of the screen and read all the rules there. Then click the COMMUNITY GUIDELINES link and read all those rules, too. These are important rules and explain how the Roblox moderation system works, among other things.
Just because you know somebody who broke a rule and didn't get banned does not mean that you get to break that rule, too. Instead of complaining how unfair the mods are, go report the person who got away with breaking the rule.
These rules are not complete. They will be updated from time to time. Make sure you check back every few days to see if a new rule has been added. Failure to not know about an update of this forum's rules is NOT AN EXCUSE. |

"4. DO NOT SHOUT. We can read it quite fine without the capitals. Please don't do it." "6. You only need one exclamation point or question mark. It's annoying when people post 'How do I do this?????!?!?!?!?'"
I disagree. Capital letters and putting many question marks or many exclamation points can be used as a form of emphasis. However, the problem is when they are used arbitrarily, without any reason for their use.
"13. Don't ask to be a moderator, an admin, or anything else here. Wiki writers will be selected by administrators, and you can apply to become one when a thread that is pinned to the top appears. Please be patient."
MrDoomBringer is a moderator, not an administrator.
Also, I disagree with copying entire threads of rules. If you're copying a rule from a thread made by a moderator and editing it, that's fine. But don't just copy&paste a whole thread, like you did for MSE6's rules... just put a link to that thread. |

There's so much spam and trolling in this forum, we rarely have intelligent discussions. They should edit the forums so some nasty obnoxious pop-ups appear until they've fully read and agreed to each individual rule, and the moderation needs to become more intense. |

Quenty, linking to different threads allows the moderators to update them separatly.
Anyways, the Terms and Conditions by themselves include all of the rules, both the terms of service, the community guidelines and the threads posted by the staff on the forums:
"There are additional rules and guidelines for behavior on ROBLOX beyond the Terms of Service. They can be found in our Community Guidelines, and in the rules posted by staff on the Forums."
So in fact, all you'd need to do is to link to the Terms and Conditions and to the forum rules. And as well include some informations specific to this forum. |
