"I'm sorry... terribly sorry, sir, but... We've lost another one. The man... Richard was his name."
Dr. Porier's eyes never made contact with mine. The emotion she held back was obvious to me. We did eventually make eye contact through the silence, though there was such a mutual understanding of each other that there was no need to even nod in acknowledgement. The feeling of death hung in the air like fog, an drained the happiness out of our very being. This very place, beneath the ground somewhere in England, was like both a cemetary and asylum or those who never made it to eternal life.

Immortality. Nearly all civilizations in human history have dreamed elaborate mythologies around it. To live forever is a basic human wish, and our very concepts of heaven and afterlives revolve around it like the Earth around the Sun. Nobody truly wants to die. People will do anything to avoid their own deaths. Perhaps it is fear of the unknown, that people don't know their own fates when they pass? At this point in time, it didn't quite bother me much the reasoning of desire for eternal life, but rather the means at getting at it. Your tax dollars at work, this humble abode is. It's a large medical laboratory down beneath the ground, to avoid people coming in with cameras and such going "My god! Look what they're doing! They're doing this and this and this and how immoral it is and etc. and how everyone should know and etc. and etc" (because we've had that before). Down here, hundreds of scientists and doctors work day in and day out to find the "Golden Elixir", as the Chinese once called it. The medical secret to eternal life. Now, they are't focusing on magical pills like in the myth of Sun Wukong (for those familiar with the myth). These people are, as you would say, "Playing God". They are working on gene therapy and the ever-so-controversial bionic augmentation, where they replace parts of your body or enhance them with computerized equipment. Seriously. Ever since I-Robot came out in the cinema, we haven't stopped getting enough references to it amongst the community down here. Not even amongst me and my wife... Dr. Porier.

Thing is, the test subjects (often voluntary) are people. Average Joes and Jills.

To put things softly and shortly: We haven't found immortality yet. And if we haven't succeeded, you can only guess what the fates were of those poor saps down here. Men and women with their genes altered, perfectly healthy only to have terribly mutated children, amazing abilities but all the while still inhuman. People obsessed with Bionic Augmentation, adding more and more until they sacrifice their very souls to the machine. Heartless, lifeless, not just an android, but a robot. Cold and empty. Even this, though you may exist for a long time, is a fate worse than death. We've even created microscopic nanobytes the size of cells to replace damaged tissue and self-replicate, only to consume those that touched them into a mass of grey powder, like ash. We did have one boy that survived this. We haven't the faintest clue where he is. He shapeshifted.

This is the part where you understand why I said that this is both a cemetary and asylum. Many die in their quest for eternal life. Many of them are rich buisnesspeople that cling so tightly to their million-or-so quid. Others are famous, some just curious. With gene therapy, some mutate themselves to death or even take their own lives when they see their not unrecognizable faces. The vanity of the affluent often adds to the shock factor. Others go mad or are too powerful to wander about. I mean, obviously they can't just leave like "Oh my, you do happen to have the face of a Metroid but I guess you can go home anyway and make a stir back in the city!". Though, some have made their way out and are probably doing their best to keep their condition under wraps. Anything leaks out and our facility gets stuffed with Nitro and lit up. Not even the Prime Minister is aware of our activities in Tengoku (Japanese for Heaven. How appropriate).

I must leave now. Ms. Katayama is looking for me. Her word is law here.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a MATURE RP (meaning I expect literacy and mature behavior from the lot of you, also, as a precaution, nobody below the age of 14). If you want to do what you like, as in other RPs, there are oh so many to choose from. I'm just sure we of the more experienced would like a place to roleplay without some dude randomly whipping out a bazooka. No offence to you guys, I'm just a tad tired of it.
The rules are as follows: There is to be no trolling, RP flaming, character ghosting (controlling one's character while that person is away), plot jacking (changing the current plotline to whatever you want), ubering or inappropriate material. Though I did say this was mature, I never said that it would break any rules.
Also, heed the Golden Rule: Treat others as you'd like to be treated. Please. This isn't some silly RPG on the Xbox. Actually involve character.
I expect civil behavor from you people. The Character Sheet is as follows: You can be a doctor/scientist at Tengoku Facility, an ordinary citizen (we need more of these peop and the doctors), an android (of any form), or a mutant. The powers sould be realistic within context. Nothing involving city-shattering powers like lazer beams or the like. Anything else though, as long as it's kept reasonable, is fine.

Ah, glad to see you, Kirby. I rushed the RP, I'm sorry. My mother was stomping on the floor calling me to come upstairs and watch Doctor Who with her.
*Stomp stomp*
Just a minute!!
*STOMP STOMP* "You've spent enough time on that dang computer! Off it now!
ONE MINUTE!!!

So yeah.
Edit: ALSO PUT POWERS, PLEASE!!

Name: Kivati (Christopher Porter)
Age: Unknown (Appears to be in early twenties)
Gen.der: Male
Appearance: Varies. Human guise: Short, blond hair, electric blue eyes (used to be grey), a soft-looking brown fall jacket, graphic tee, new jeans and running shoes. Normal guise: A thin, almost skeletal robotic figure with a sharp-edged, almost stylish design with glowing blue lines running adjacent to every edge. Small waist, joints almost hinged, a thin neck and gaunt face, like a helmet in the way that it has no mouth. The whites of the eyes were black, and the irises the same electric blue. Gentlemanly posture, always has a slender katana sword to his side.
Bio: Leaving college, his wealthy uncle's words of success and status equaling happiness soon crept into the very back of his mind, as planned. Though, as with youth, the concept of death and aging frightened him, and, guided by his uncle, found Tengoku.
"You better make this boy a model to the world!" He said. "I simply won't accept anything else."
Christopher's mind then changed, and he resisted his uncle's every word. When choosing a method of immortality, Chris's uncle went for the cybernetic option... because he was in the very business of selling computer parts. Tengoku offered a new way, nanobyte matrix construction. Nanobytes would heal any dying tissue on the microscopic level.
They warned, though, that three people died because of this.
Inside one of the operating rooms, they offered a bowl of nanobytes to Chris, as he only need lay his hand in the grey ash-like powder to let them creep into his body.
They mistook his tissue for dying tissue and consumed it all, his body falling apart into a mound of glittering dust.
But his soul was still alive, as as one of the nanobytes shone as brightly as the north star, the dust took the form of a humanoid figure and brought itself back from the dead.
Extra: Strong and impossibly fast.

Well, I don't want it to be generic, and I want the mutation to be something that only affects internally, so like the messed up part is on the inside.

Name: Herrando Williams

Ag/e: 36

Gender: Male

Appearance: Herrando stands at 5'9, his build and physical condition average. He is Caucasian, with aristocratic features and a crooked nose. His hair is unkempt, but short.

Herrando is clad in black slacks, along with a blue long-sleeved shirt. His shirt is covered by an orange blazer.

Status: Mutant.

Bio: Herrando was never a very stable man. Growing up in a family of criminals and gang members, Herrando learned very early on the dangers of the world. With nothing else to look forward to with his background, Herrando turned to crime.

Herrando's lifestyle finally lashed back at him during a robbery gone wrong, which ended with the loss of three lives. Herrando was sentenced to life in prison. However, after some negotiation by his Lawyers, Herrando was sent to Tengoku.

After 4 years of experimentation, Herrando finally escaped, using his abilities to go through the walls, escaping into the form of an unusually close together pack of rats.

Herrando, now with a new respect for life earned through many years of time to think, tries to avoid conflict.

Extra: Herrando is 'Pseudonatural'- He can manipulate the form and structure of his body at will, making it extremely hard to hit something vital. Furthermore, he is capable of throwing himself through space and time, instantly transporting a short distance.

Herrando doesn't like to talk about what he sees while transporting.

Transporting too much exhausts Herrando. Due to it's odd nature, purely accidental, it has not yet been replicated.

(Okay, here it is:

They were trying to enhance vision, but it backfired, and made her blind. Her vision is nil, but all of her other senses were superamplified. She be feel the minute textures on a surface, can taste every specific ingredient in food, hear the slightest vibration in the air, and can smell a person quite a distance away. This can result in sensory overload sometimes, of course, but she can try to shut it out sometimes. With her hearing and feeling, she can almost see, but not see. She can hear a person a distance away, and feel their feet pad the ground.

Yes, Sig is accepted. About two more people or so, and we can begin.

Also, it would be nice to have a semi-plotline to follow apart from the facility.

Well, maybe Boralé could be released from the facility later, since she looks normal, and can act normal apart from having a sensory overload. I'd like to start at the beginning of the experimentation to enhance her vision, if you don't mind.

Lead the way, Kirby. I'll make my character's debut sometime along that plotline. He's a bit of a sophisticated servant, almost. He runs errands for the important people of the facility, and is generally well-liked amongst the doctors and scientists.

Oh joy, I'm going to be as busy as I am in the Drama orchestra (precussion).
(Also, I can't make that accented e.)

The scientists, two women and one man, led Borale closely to the preparation room, showing troubled yet brave looks on their faces. So many times they have failed. This girl may add to the long list of rejects.
"Come along, dear." One of the women said. She was slightly older than the other, in her mid fifties with her hair beginning to gray. "We're going to take a blood test for genetic testing. I... hope you're okay with needles!"
She gave a little reassuring grin like a doctor to a child when she's about to get her booster shot.

As she was being led into a cozy-looking office, a tall, slender robotic figure peered at her with his piercing eyes, almost a look of pity, then continued strolling down the hall with his dignified stance, long, metallic hair swishing back and forth.

The doctors seated Borale in a comfortable chair and looked for a vein, then tied the blue elastic around her arm and drew two vials of burgundy-colored blood. It stopped at one moment, so the doctors removed the elastic. It continued for about ten minutes.
"The gene testing will take a half-hour, so... there are magazines around, if you'd like to read some." The younger woman said softly. Tere were many magazines on a wooden desk nearby, though they hadn't been updated in over a year or so.

I ignored the magazines, and examined the room, looking for anything of interest.
