Is preordering when you buy the full game before it comes out? Or pay 5$ to hold one copy in stock until it comes out? Please help.

It's when you sort of buy it beforehand so you're guaranteed a product. It's so it doesn't go out of stock.

I want to preorder Assassins Creed revelations. So I went to Best buy and I saw a sigh saying "Collectors eddition" if you buy at best buy. So I tried to preorder and the dude said to pay 5 dollars so I don't if its preordering or what.
