I'm using a game engine called Unity3D and I'm trying to study JavaScript.
I just want to head into the right direction for when I get a video game developing job. |

Javascript = web development Unity is a noob for using a web language for gaming. C++ is a general purpose software development. You can't really compare them... |

The Missing Manual: JavaScript is pretty good for starters. When you get in to more advanced things I can recommend the books.
JavaScript is pretty much for web development...
I have some C++ books I can recommend too. Most of them cost around $50 though. D=

You can make games with JS. HTMl 5 or something like processing.js are highly powerful engines.
But C++ is almost universally preferred, ESPECIALLY by companies. |

| JS is used for web games, I think. Although, Flash and Java are more popular, I'm pretty sure. C++ is generally used for games like ROBLOX with lots of 3D graphics that run on your computer. |

| Unity runs on Java, not JavaScript. They're separate things. |

^ Wut? Unity's source code is written in C++ and C# and supports the scripting languages Javascript, Boo and C# last I checked.
Also, games that are entirely written in Javascript using Unity(renamed as UnityScript) run as fast as C# counterpart. Javascript's performance is high up there with other languages, if you guys don't know this.
To answer the thread's title question, C++ is used more. But there is no reason to go with C++, if your goal is just to make games! Unity3D, a plethora of other free game engines and scripting languages such as Lua and Python are beautiful options to consider.
