Gravity pulling something down doesn't slow it down.
Air resistance and friction slows something down.
Objects will main a constant velocity in one direction until another force opposes it. |

No, you see, friction is the problem.
Gravity merely moves it in another direction.
Friction slows it down.
If you push both blocks in a place with 0% friction, and block 1 has no gravity and block 2 has a little gravity, both will get pushed just as easily, but block 2 will move downward or whatever if possible in addition to the sideways push. |
