Eh, 11.04 could be better. Ditching Gnome for Unity was their biggest mistake, I tried out Gnome 3 in it's place and, while I wasn't as happy as I was on Gnome 2, it worked quite better than Unity did. Hopefully they'll get some of the kinks worked out for 11.10, but I'm probably going to switch to Fedora anyways. |

It there was a straight answer to the question then there would only be one Linux distro used, the one in question.
Obviously it depends on what you want from the OS. |

@Poke I'm okay with Unity. I'm in the browser or an IDE where I use mostly shortcuts 99% of the time, so the desktop really doesn't have any effect on what I'm doing. |

"Brotip: Use WUBI to try it out safely."
WUBI = the worst way to install Ubuntu, excluding installing it on a virtual machine.
To try Ubuntu safely, use the live disk. Not WUBI. WUBI is the worst way to install Ubuntu.
There is no best GNU/Linux distribution. It depends on your needs. But if we base it statistically on the needs of most people we could find the "best" GNU/Linux distribution, but since that'd require an unbelievable ammount of work and since they're all pretty much as good...
I really dislike the choice of switching to Unity. Unity is better than GNOME 2 (duh), but GNOME 3 is better than Unity. I think I'm going to settle on Debian as my favorite distribution, but, eh, not completely sure. One thing is sure, I am more and more unhappy with Canonical's (Canonical = company dat manaigs ubuntu) choices.
I'm thinking about Fedora, Debian or maybe a completely free (freedom, not cost, in this case) distribution.
I think I'm also going to try FreeBSD in the future. |
