| A parent buys their kid a game like Grand Theft Auto then freaks out about how violent it is? |

@thats Video games can't be violent. Since they are just pixels arranged on a screen. |

"How is that even violent?" Seriously? ------ Yes I agree with this. Parents do need to know more about what they are getting for their kids. To save time, money and their kid's well-being. |

@Tiwe I am not a person who believes video games make people violent. However this thread was about how stupid it is that people buy their kids games without even knowing anything about them. |

The scenario you described happens a lot. Guess who the parents blame? |

@Builder The government.
Because the parents don't want to take any responsability. That is why M rated video game sales to minors almost got banned in the US. |

I'm not going to argue with you, I do get your point about the parents not knowing and I agree.
But video games can make someone violent. Given the fact that people in video game enjoy punching and kicking everyone, seeing gore after they conflict physical damage, they might apply that in real life (of course, this wouldn't apply to everyone). |

@u51290c So much information and a BRIGHTLY COLORED RATING THAT SAYS MATURE on the back. Yet we have stuff like this. Doesn't this come up on FOX often? |

@Tiwe Anyone who can see a clear difference between real life and video games won't be affected. However the one thing I will admit is that video games probably do desensitize people to violence. However, being desensitized to violence should cause people to be violent. |

| The main reason I think people blame video games for violence is that the parents won't take any responsability for raising their kids badly. |

They shouldn't get the video games at all. Just stick to Mario and all the games we used to play before. Get them a brick game if they really want to play. |

I agree. 2 or 3 years ago (in 4th or 5th grade), Obama almost banned all violent video games. My friends told me it was because they disturbed 1 of his daughters.

@Tiwe Personally the reason I like shooters is because you have the freedom to explore the virtual world. I bet some other people like them for that reason too. So I don't think giving kids games like mario would entertain them. |

@Awe The US is a democracy. The president can't ban something because it will make his life better. |

@u Yep. Well actually they did kinda ban that sale. Now if you want to buy a rated M game, you have to have an adult of 21 with you and has to show ID.
