Mose people wonder, "How am I supposed to script?" Here are the reasons people ask this question:
• They're too lazy to read the wiki or a scripting guide.
• They whine and complain about how people won't make scripts for them.
• They always say, "THE WIKI DOESN'T HELP! IT'S TOO HARD! HALLPPP!"
Yes, these are hurtful but they relate to 87.6% of Roblox. As Bjarne Stroustrup says; there are two types of languages, the ones people complain about and the ones no one uses. So yeah, I complain about programming languages. If you didn't know there was more than one language other than Lua, than you better continue reading.
Just remember: no one's perfect. Let's do a Multiple Intelligences test.

Count how many you said true to for each section.

Section A::Audio Learner:
1) I can easily remember things I hear.
2) I love music.
3) I dance to any song.
4) I know lots of dance moves, like the Jerk and the Dougie, but I can do these best with music.
5) I like making music.

Section B::Visual Learner:
1) I like reading.
2) I like drawing.
3) I can easily comprehend advanced language arts.
4) I know what the word immunoelectrophoretical means without looking it up.
5) I like to write.

Section C::Interactive Learner:
1) I learn best when I can touch and feel something.
2) I love it when rain splashes on me when I'm extremely hot.

Which one had the most checks? If you had the most in Section A, you should probably get a teacher that you can voice chat with ONLY. Use something to talk to them.
If you had the most in B, you should stick the wiki. Don't be lazy, GO FOR IT!
If you had the most in C... you're lucky. I made this one with the least so that so many people won't need teachers. If you have this, you should probably video chat with an online teacher that YOU TRUST. Don't video chat with strangers :)

So here's my story:
I sat back with this pack of that candy and it gave me the skills needed to be...
the dumbest requester on ALL of Scripting Helpers. I would spam people on Roblox for scripts, spam in the every forum, even OT for scripts. I would type like:
hi can u gusy halp me i rlly ned this if u want to help me pm me plz and thx!!
No seriously. That was EXACTLY how I used to type.
Then I actually grew the [ Content Deleted ] to read the wiki.
And I absorbed a lot of it. My skill went from 0 to about 3.
So I pressed on. I still wondered how people made trapdoors and VIP doors. SO I started using free models. I wasn't putting them in my game like a noob, because I was smart enough back then to know they might have viruses.
And I studied and studied them. It wasn't really working, however I did upgrade 2 levels. In my picture.
Next I took a Multiple Intelligences test. I found out I was an interactive learner. So I got someone to help me. Honestly, that took me only a level up.
YES, even though you're a certain type of learner, doesn't mean that you always learn that way. Programming languages are different. So I quit Lua. I ragequit. I headdesk'd. I thought that test was supposed to 'tell me how much smartz I haz'. So I started learning Java. I. LOVED. IT. I actually understood this one. I learned it from feet to hair on its head. And then I stopped when I knew everything about it and said, "Wait a second, that was TOO easy!" I realized it because I had experience with Lua. So I headed back to Lua. Picked it up reaaalllyyyy quick. And I owe it all to you 06ers of SH [ I joined in '07, not telling who my main is ].

So should you follow my footsteps?
Should you learn everything from ASP to Lua to C# to AS3? It's what I did. Here are the languages I know, just from Roblox:

- Lua
- Java
- ASP
- PHP
- JavaScript
- C++
- C#
- ActionScript 3.0
- Batch :D
- Binary [ know the alphabet by heart, don't know any other than that ]

As you can see, I've devoted my life to programming.

Will you?

~ Dr Sprinkles, come into my office young man. ~

I read the thread however, it seems more of you just expaining your history with programming history than a guide.

@Dr

I did not pick up fast on scripting
Im probobly the worst scripter in the scripters forum. Yet im still a decent enough scripter to script almost absoloutly anything

You stated to find an Lua teacher. I treid that too. I couldn't. No one knew Lua cause Lua was still unpopuler. I learned on my own.

I learned the basics form the wiki. I picked up the rest from edting scripts.

And your probobly still at the basics yet you dare to make a scripting guide.

I gave up on scripting. Just because we choose not to do it dosent mean we are lazy. Not everyone has the ability to script. Im sticking with design. That is something i can do. When you want to do something stick with what your good at.

@mystery
Read the quote from Bjarne S.
I'm not implying that you're lazy. I do both design and programming, but programming is what I love. Just be what you set out to be is all I'm saying (:

Oh, I'm learning most of those languages you postsed. Well, no not most. I'm in the process of learning

Lua <--This is my strongest language at the moment since I have a easy way to test it with fun results :P..Of course, it's more like RBX.Lua, but whatever.

C++ <--Bah, on a Mac. Bad place to test. I'm not very good at it.

HTML <--Found a testing place. Rather boring in my opinion, I've got it nailed down pretty much.

CSS <--Not much too it, really just a extension of HTML

JavaScript <--Using Google Chrome to test. Having fun with it :P

@dark

Why do you actually need an engine to test those? Just save the files as .js or .html and then open it with an internet browser.
