| Well actually, a study I found showed that if you classify US states as independent countries, Massachusetts has the fourth best education system in the world. |

| Where would all the other states be? The other states could easily drag it down to the worst education if they are bad enough. |

| Absolutely they could. But it's extremely difficult to place the entire United States on a quantitative scale, because what you're essentially doing is adding up all the education systems and dividing by 50. Your results are sketchy at best and do not provide an accurate picture of education in the United States. |

| I think the US should be as states in rankings like these. |

| Same with England and its counties. I know education in my county is some of the worst inthe country and yet we have some of the finest universities in the world. |

| Why not just make an average of all the states and use that as the nation's education rating. |

Personally, I blame the state of American education on the students, particularly on their consumption of the "American diet," which has been proven to cause brain damage. Although now other countries are eating more like we are, so it's only a matter of time before the whole world becomes just as stupid. |

What are excitotoxins or MSG?
They sound deadly, especially excitotoxins. |

"Same with England and its counties. I know education in my county is some of the worst inthe country and yet we have some of the finest universities in the world."
Depends, the government has just shoved money literally up the Arse of the first Academy, they're getting a completely re-built school ready for the new term next week, still my school, one of the best and largest in the country (supposedly) has the same of post-war décor as it had in the late 40's, and Teachers never talking about how we need to save space in Books...
Naturally, the local Council puts up it's propaganda of the Academy at every occasion, though they may brag, it's still a terrible, terrible school. |

Excitotoxins temporarily cause the neurons in one's brain to fire rapidly, which tends to make people become slightly neurotic, and also makes it difficult for people to fall asleep, and with extended use causes the neurons to become burnt out from overuse and stop transmitting at all. And also, MSG is pretty much concentrated excitotoxins.
The Human brain actually has a mechanism called the Blood Brain Barrier, which is designed to keep the small amounts of excitotoxins present in natural foods such as tomatoes from entering the brain, however, it doesn't guard against the massive amounts of excitotoxins present in processed food. |

| I bet if everyone submitted their own personal anecdotes about their experiences with the US educational system, we'd be able to derive just how bad it is. |

I agree with Yob.
If teachers were allowed to threaten kids with shotguns, the world would be a better and smarter place |
