This is a collaboration of ideas, mostly that I've seen scattered around S&I at different times. I can't give any credit for these ideas because I wasn't making a log or anything. Just know that I didn't make them, but, judging from the amount of spam that is flowing in the commentaries, I think we ought to do something to stop it.
--
Idea #1: Constant Reminders
When you join ROBLOX, on the account creation pages there ought to be one page marked, "****VERY IMPORANT, PLEASE READ****" at the top, or such. The text reads that the money glitches are fake, do not do what they say. It would also show all the possibilites of what the spam comments might be, like "Builderman told me" or "Copy & paste this on 10 gears" or "THIS IS NOT FAKE" etc.
I'm too lazy to write the whole message of what it would say, but I hope you get the idea. Anyways, after they make their account, they would also get a message, along with the two other important staff messages, that would say the same thing.
And if the newbie ventures onto the commentary of something, beside the comment box is marked in clear, red print: "Those "Copy & paste this message to 5 hats to get 10000000 ROBUX and Tickets" comments are fake. Do not copy and paste any of the messages on a commentary." or something like that. ROBLOX can decide what to say.
You guys can also give other ideas as to ways to remind the newbie. But think it through, it shouldn't annoy someone too much, and it should be clear and easy to find.
This would help the spamming because new players wouldn't try to do the spam, and then eventually, no one would spam (or, a minimal amount of players would).
--
Idea #2: Do not allow copy and paste messages
This would definitely minimize, maybe not obliterate, but minimize the amount of spam on the commentaries. Yes, I know, there are several ways to copy and paste a message besides right-clicking copy and then paste, but, at least this would prevent a lot of people from doing it.
This is not one of the best ideas, I think, but it at least has some potential.
--
Idea #3: Check for key words
A bot would do a check on each comment and look for particular unique spam words such as ''Copy and paste'' in direct succession, ''This is not fake,'' ''Builderman/Telamon told me,'' etc.
It would then be deleted, but then it would be sent to a moderator, who would check if the message was good or spam. If he marks it as spam, it would be deleted, and a notification would be sent to the user who spammed. If he marks it not as spam, the message would reappear.
--
Idea #4: Author can choose key words for bot to remove from commentary
The author of a game or item can choose key words in the ''Configure'' section that a bot would immediately block from being commented if detected. He could put in phrases, individual words, and bodies of words to prevent players from putting a dot in it and bypassing the filter.
--
Idea #5: Forget about it?
Spam is something that will never be completely destroyed. It will continue, even with the most sophisticated anti-spam system. These ideas will minimize spam, but likely will not remove it from ROBLOX completely. Instead of wasting our time with making these ideas for removing spam, why not just forget about it altogether?
After all, last I checked, people don't put anything relevant in commentaries anyway. |

If you support, (or don't support), basically if you post, I'd like it if you included which one you think is best, so I can make out which one has the highest chance of actually removing spam.

1. Support. I can't believe the newbies believe those hoaxes.
2. As long as it stays ONLY in the commentary.
3.
"Builderman/Telamon told me they were going to release the terrain update soon!"
"This is NOT fake! I swear, I saw Herobrine the other day!"
Has potential, but needs some re-working.
4. Ohhh... this sounds like an interesting one. :D

Now, that's just saying something to disagree with me. Builderman and Telamon, in the first place, never individually told anyone about the terrain, they informed everyone present at the ROBLOX Rally.
In the second place, that is no comment. A comment would be pertaining to whatever the place or item is about, like "great game," "cool pathfinding AIs," "done with MP, true masterpiece" etc. Something like, "Telamon told me that they were going to release the terrain update soon!" has NOTHING to do with the place or item.
Thirdly, no one is going to care about reading that comment anywyas.
Fourth, it can easily be said in different ways - "The mods are coming up with the terrain update soon!" "The new terrain update is under way!" "Check the News to see the terrain update!" "The terrain update looks so cool!" etc. etc. I doubt anyone will say that exactly like that.
Fifth, it's unlikely anyone would make a bizarre random blurt out comment like that, for the reasons stated above.
I can apply the same argument in different words to the other one.

Personally, I like number five the best... it seems the most logical to me.

Idea #1: Constant Reminders
The text at the account creation page should have a few pictures to make it more appealing for people to read. I like the warning message next to comments. --
Idea #2: Do not allow copy and paste messages
Slows spam down. Ees good. --
Idea #3: Check for key words
Ees good as well. --
Idea #4: Author can choose key words for bot to remove from commentary
This could be globally implemented as well, if it hasn't already, with swear words. --
Idea #5: Forget about it?
Let's just try our best to minimalize the spam. Besides, it's pretty hard to forget if you see it everywhere. |
