Because European is very broad, as many countries have many different cultures and languages.
You have English-American, Irish-American, Italian-American, Russian-American, Greek-American, German-American, etc. |

| Because no one cares about the existence of African countries, pretty much the only exceptions being South Africa and maybe Kenya. |

| Many African-Americans today can trace their lineage to the unfortunate slave trade. Since slaves were generally taken from tribes and their locations not recorded, it can be difficult to determine what modern-day "country" a black US citizen would be from. Europe, on the other hand, had more established political systems (stable nations) and immigration customs coming into the US that allowed white US citizens to trace their lineage with relative ease and precision through the legal system. |

What is so bad about calling them "black"? I really don't see a problem with it. It does not sound "racist" in my opinion. |

| Why is discussing skin colour such a tabu? And in my opinion white people are white and black people are black. |

1. Natives aren't black. 2. Europeans still are the majority of America. |

You said it was because the Europeans came first, the Europeans weren't ethnic.
Is the US education system failing us this bad already? |

| Not to mention the fact that the African countries were really not divided well... As we can see South Sudan and Sudan. European Imperialism divided the continent not by culture instead by claims. |
