Disclaimer: HEV does not really exist
I kept having an idea about making a thread about a small modern town which has been subject recent to the hyper evolutionary virus (or HEV as it will be referred to) This is set in near future America (although tech is only a little more advanced) HEV Most characters would be civilians and 3-4 players might be allowed to be ICS (Infection Control System) field operatives and 1 of those people might be a medical operative.
Notes about plot: this is not the first HEV outbreak, in fact they're becoming . However only a few animals are capable of carrying it (luckily all those being ether people or rare)
Effects of HEV (which is a mutation of Rabies by the way.) within about 3 days of infection a person gets extremely hungry all of the time, within 5 days a person begins to notice abnormal sensations and superior perception along with some other things, in about 8 days they feel an intensive need to isolate themselves from everyone else, at 9 days they begin to mutate, this process usually also puts them into an insane and berserk state (often barely sentient) and will posses superhuman strength, speed, and possibly other capacities.
The thing that I realized about this is that players tend to godmod and realize that someone has been infected even if there are no outward signs as if it is an obvious thing. So, I came up with a system, upon signing up players pick numbers in several categories and each number has assigned a property that fits in its category.
For example: Category 3 (actually infection status but this is not displayed) Available properties (which on sign up will be listed as numbers with no description) Infected, advanced symptoms Infected, some symptoms Infected, no symptoms Uninfected Uninfected, symptoms that could be mistaken for HEV Uninfected, immune uninfected, if infected mutation will be beneficial Infected, mutations will be beneficial
Then there would be a few others (one or more of which may be dummy categories which have no real effect)
I cannot stress this part enough: your characters are normal people, they won't be army special forces, psychotic killers escaped from an insane asylum, or award winning scientists. They'll be your average Joe or Jane (maybe very smart or athletic though) |

| I'll also put on the sheet a player preferred status category in case every miraculously picks numbers that are all uninfected or all infected |

| Actually I got the idea from Dead Frontier, a flash game, and Bedlam 1 first, then I found out FEV existed 2 days after I wrote the idea down. They do have similarities though. |

(Funny, I learned that chainsaws were a bad idea when I saw one guy get over run and killed because he had a chainsaw in an orange zone. I use a wood axe because it is silent (soon to graduate to a cavalry saber.))
Anyhow, I'll probably begin work on this thread. First I have to amass a bunch of symptoms though.

Chainsaw is really useful in the areas with weaker zombies. Or, infected, if you want to call them that. Once you start hitting burnt/purple zombies, chainsaw is a really, really bad idea.
Symptoms, symptoms. Not obvious ones. |
