Everybody has healthcare. Not everybody has health insurance.
1) It is federal law that a hospital emergency room cannot turn you away.
2) Everyone who calls 911 is helped onsite or shipped to a hospital. No one can be refused.
3) Anybody at the poverty level or below can get free health care from state welfare agencies, mostly funded by the federal government. For example, in California it's Medi-Cal.
4) Children of families of up to 3 times the poverty level are covered by SCHIP (up to ~$80,000 for a family of 4)
5) For retirees 65 and older, there is Medicare.
6) For low-income people, there is Medicaid.
7) Veterans have the Veterans Health Administration.
8) The Indian tribes have Indian Health Service.
9) Colleges and universities usually have some sort of student health care service partly paid by tuition, partly paid by taxpayers |
