(It's long, but I think it's worth the read, don't tl;dr please) Why clan "trainings" and promotion systems fail: [ranting] So I see an ad for a clan, and I join it. Then, per usual, there's a "training" for promotions. I go there, and you know what happens? The trainer(s) say "kill each other, whoever gets a lot of KOs gets a promo." I usually get a lot of KOs, only sometimes do I get promoted, but that's not the point. The first problem is the training = promotions, that's not how it should go. They should train you, then test you on the skills you were trained on THEN you get a promotion, if you pass. Also, these "trainings" are really just FFAs (free-for-alls) which do not teach you anything unless you are completely new to fighting, and that's only to a certain point before these "trainings" just devolve into a "who is the best fighter" competitions. And that leads to some of my least favorite things: flaming, name calling, and FF/AFK/spawn killing so the people who aren't skilled enough will get enough KOs to be promoted. Trainings are supposed to TRAIN you, in essence teach you something, and these trainings do teach you one thing: Who already knows how to fight in a group. I've only been in one group (on a different account) that actually taught me stuff at trainings, and that's The 2nd Military (I don't suggest joining, they are incredibly inactive now, but meh) VAK Army Corps/Cadets use this training method, and I despise it, that's why I left VAK Army Corps and didn't rejoin Cadets after the AA by DrixusLanius. They'll have FFA's, and whoever does best gets a recommendation for a promotion, then those people just keep grinding for promotions, at the expense of the more weak VAC/Cadets (don't say "lol u suk and ur butthurt cuz u never got promod in vac olol" because I won like 3 SF competitions and got a lot of recommendations, but I didn't take the VAK abuse and fought back, which pretty much guaranteed I'd never get promoted, but meh) So in essence, the people who get promoted are the people that were good to begin with, and the people who go to the "trainings" to get better just stay at the low ranks and never get any better. (I also dislike how the people in VAK treat Cadets like crud and kill them all the time even though we were better than most of the low Vakkies, but yet again, meh) [/ranting] Noooow then, after enduring that whole rant, you can read something of use; my solution to promotion problems and the such. There should be 3 tiers of ranks, Low-ranks, Mid-ranks, and High-ranks. For recruit promotions, a MR-HR hosts a TRAINING, where they show the recruits how to do basic stuff (sword fighting and gun fighting tips) and teach them the rules of the group, then test them, and if they pass the test, they get promoted. For the non-recruit LR's, a MR-HR hosts a TRAINING, teaching them tactics, more advanced sword/gun fighting, etc, then they test them, and promo if pass. For MR's, activity, getting known in the group, leading troops, and being tested by a HR. For HR's, activity, group has to be major priority, leading troops, and evaluation by leader, then put up for election/made a HR (depending on if the group is democratic or not) I do believe this sounds fair, and I know I'll be implementing it in how I do trainings for the groups I own/am a HR in. Thanks for reading (if you did) and please don't flame this thread, I just wanted to get an idea out there. |

| You seem to have joined all the wrong clans. You can avoid much of this by joining either Minor Threat or Renegade Brigade. :/ |

| 2 clans out of like thousands. And I don't really need training anymore, I've had enough experience (my main is from 08, so don't flame me because this account is an 11'r) |

| I don't think I've ever been to a non-FFA/tournament training before, except for the group I listed in the OP. |

Trainings are for teaching people how to use things. Promotion trainings are to find out the people who are best and them promote them, because the people who are better at fighting should be promoted, and this is a good way to find them. |

Agreed.
"Kill-each-other-in-training-to-get-promo" trainings our completely wasteful.
TAC, my bro, in the other hand is completely different.

@Recon, thank God someone actually agrees with me. @Solo, clans generally don't differentiate between trainings and promo trainings, and IMO, it should be promotion TESTING. |

| I'm not looking for a group to join that uses a training system I like, I'm just making a point, I'm happy in NFA and WIJ. |

| I kinda agree just killing eachother does help It takes the will of the soldier to "adapt" HR's actually teaching is a better method but it's more "lazy" for the HR witch might lead to the reason this happens. |

| Soooo you're saying FFA/tournament trainings help you adapt to fighitng (to a point) and that when HR's actually do more personalized trainings where they teach you stuff is better? Sounds like what I said :) |
