| 1/6 = 2 when applied to counting by dozens. |

@ IMAlright
You mean 1/6 divide by 1/6 is 1. |

| Or 1/6 x 1 = 1, because the general rule is any number multiplied by 1 is that same number, including the number 0. |

Which gives the other general rule:
Any number divided by itself is equal to unity. |

And this requires a mathematical logic to arrive at the correct answer:
What is 0 / 0 (zero divide by zero)? |

I punch those numbers into my calculator. 1/6=0.1666666666666667 6/6=1 This doesn't make sence. None of those are half a dozen. I don't understand this thread. Enlighten me. |

Also, 0/0=0. If 0 people equally share 0 sweets, each person gets 0 sweets. |

Undefined.
And no, he was right in saying 1/6 is 1/6 of 1.
if you plant 1/6 on Number line as One Sixth. it is One Sixth of the way from Zero to one.
If you look at 1/6 as it own number, not a part of another, that statement makes perfect sense.
ONE SIXTH (as a Number) is ONE SIXTH of ONE.
(1/6)*6 = 1.
similarly, 1/6 is 1/12 of 2, if you look at 1/6 as an idividual number. |

@larry Did he ever say 1/6 is 1/6 of one? I'm referring to the first post. 6/6 is not half a dozen. It's 1. |

Ok, first of all Gabriel, you and I were writing posts at the same time. When I hit "Post Reply" and started writing, your post didn't even exist.
Secondly, I was referring to the fact that the thread creator pushed off a post that said "1/6 is 1/6 of 1" |

"Or 1/6 x 1 = 1" Correction: 1/6*1=0.1666666666666667 1*any number is not 1 unless the second number is 1 aswell. Use this formula: 1*a=a |

| This reminds me of a massive argument over what 2+2*2 was. A lot of people said 6 and others said 8. |

2+2*2 is 6.
P E MD AS
you'd do the 2*2 first.
so the whole would look like this:
2+2*2 2+4 6

But if you times 1/6 by 2 you get 2/12
And when you do something with it you can get it to 6/12. |
