| Well, protestant is a branch of Christianity that came about in the enlightenment (aprox. 1600-1800), when Martin Luther published his "95 Theses" paper. This paper caused another schism in the Christian faith. Much of northern Europe broke away from Roman Catholicism due to these papers. The papers mainly focused on the over indulgences made by Roman Catholic officials, and why they were bad. So it's no surprise that many protestant churches aren't extremely ornate. Some differences include the exclusion of prayer-beads, and the use of Jesus' mother as a subject in prayer. Many other rituals were cut out as well. |

@MajorMatthew Actually, there is another sect of Christianity called Orthodox Christianity, which came about as a result of the great schism. |

@aler0003 Not quite, you see, the protestants believed that Roman Catholicism had detached from it's humble roots and had abandoned their original purpose, which was to spread the word of God. Although the Pope of Rome thought that Martin Luther was a heretic due to the fact that he was interpreting the bible for himself. So you can plainly see here that both parties had a disagreement with each other on how the bible should be interpreted. Neither of them were wrong in my opinion (opinions vary greatly with other people on this subject). Think of it as the three main monotheistic religions (Muslims/Jews/Christians), all of them worship the same God, and each of them have different interpretations of the same book (torah), but all of them hate each other and would stop at nothing to kill one another if given the chance. |

| Mormons are Christian, they just seem to veer way off of what's in the bible. |
