AMD. Why? Their computers are affordable and high-end. Intel keeps sugar coating their products by giving it minor upgrades and calling it high tech.
What has AMD been doing? They designed the 6 core AMD Phenom II, which brings effiency up to an approximate 30% higher than the Intel Atom Quad Core.
AMD has great motherboards for sale that only cost about 120 dollars, if that. I saw on on NewEgg.ca that only cost $98.25 Canadian. You could build a mean machine with them.
The one I looked at had DVI outputs, multi-channel audio outputs / inputs. Gigabit support for onboard LAN.
If you are going to build a computer than go with AMD. Because AlienWare costs too much more than it's worth and Intel has no clue what they are doing.

@ TectonsAlt - Yeah, they sell Motherboards in bulk for around 100 dollars. @ 1999James - Yeah, it sucks. I have an Phenom II Six core. in mine, with a water cooler package, it stays at a nice chilly temperature of roughly 15 degrees idle, peaks at 35 when maxed out, Celsius, of course. |

| @ Zablash - Yeah, I had a Hewlett Packard and it was considered "Top Quality" and it took my approximately 20 seconds to open the internet, and it wasn't my ISP because Ithink it's about 100.0 - 250.0 MBps, it bounces between 100 and 250. |

Dell is a rip off, if something dies on it, you have to go back and get it from dell, and that stuff is over priced, about macs, those things are amazingly good. I was playing Team Fortress 2 with a processor unit recorder, and I never had a single Frame Rate Drop. I understand that they are overpriced, but it's worth it.
But if you are looking for a PC, not a Mac, AMD wins. They are fair, all of their parts are interchangable with similar systems. Their PCI slots can be used for anything, instead of what it is specifically designed for AND they are an actively upgrading company. |

| I made an AMD with a Rosewill case, the thing is beautiful and powerful. I have about 12 gigs of ram, but it's in repairs, I blew the power supply. The day My AC went out is the day me and my PC suffered. I hope it isn't hurt too bad... |

"about macs, those things are amazingly good."
But WAY too overpriced.
"I understand that they are overpriced, but it's worth it."
Not really. The fact that you can get something way better for way cheaper makes it not worth it. Unless you HAVE to use OS X for some reason or another, there's almost no reason to get a Mac.
Also, TF2 is not a good game to use as an example for framerate, considering the fact that it's not even GPU-CPU intensive hardly at all. |

"Apple is too overprices.."
Hey, you're the guy who suggested Dell. Please don't be so hypocritical.
Anyhow, AMD. AMD relies on selling actually good products for their profit, and not on propaganda. |

UPDATE! If you are running a FoxConn supplied board, I have a memo for you.
Do Not run a FoxConn Supplied board, we haven't nailed down exactly what's wrong with them, but when I got mine, it messed with the ATX and blue screened TWICE... in a row, when I tried to run Linux on it, those things are DESIGNED to be inoperable with Linux. |

Macintosh WOULD beat everything if everyone could afford one. But since you can't, I go with AMD. I have a Sempron, but uh, Semprons are extremely weak.
Then again I am running BioStar Motherboard. |

"Apple beats everything. ;D"
I sense some serious fanboyism.
But fro serus though. Provide real evidence, rather than just saying "it's better" repeatedly. |

| Oh definetly, I believe it is worth it, but it's just because all of the software is already there it runs high priced. |
