All that you are required to read is the overview, recent events, the rules, and the CS. I however do advise reading up on the locations
Jinxy and I collaborated on this, a lot of ideas I got he gave me the inspiration for and some parts he came up with originally.

~Overview
Fornam has stood as the northernmost town in all of Vyrdan for nearly three decades now. It has weathered many battles with both native creatures and on one occasion, an army from afar. Built around the old fortress of Northhaven, it has seen relative prosperity. Most of the people here make their living from the forest or from the farms the ring the town. This is also an important stop for adventurers headed north, typically to the ruins scattered through the Great Northern Forest. Recently a woodsman, Barik, found an injured and unconcious young woman and brought her into the town for medical treatment. (see recent events for more on that)

Nation: Vyrdan (credit to Jinxy)

~Town details
Town: Fornam
Population753
Location: Fornam is located in the far north of Vyrdan, the town is built around an old Vyrdanian Legion fort that was known as Northhaven, being the most northern fortress of any size. Fornam is still the most northern town, with the farmlands surrounding it rubbing edges with the great northern forest.
Culture: The people of Fornam are a friendly, hardworking folk with little tolerance for mischief (of the criminal variety). They welcome most visitors with open arms and a kind word. However if one proves ill intent words spreads fast, due to this niether the assassin's guild nor the thieve's guild have any pressence here.
Fortifications: for Northhaven see specific entry, there is a 20 foot high stone curtain wall surrounding the town proper and there is a wooden palisade a quarter mile beyond that. along the curtain wall there is a tower every 100 feet. For the sake of both defense and farming most of the forest within a half mile of the town has been cleared.

Lodgings
Forester's Haven inn and tavern
The largest, and only, inn located in Fornam. It has a warm, friendly atmosphere and is the location where most people spend the leisure time. IT is always a good place to go to pick up on rumors, tales, and knowledge of the forest. If one is looking for a guide or a good swordarm, this is probably the best place to look.

Shops (Credit to Jinxy)
John Nighthawke's General Store, Trading Post, Tannery, and Adventuring Supplies
Most travel supplies, some weapons and armor, as well as a few specialty items can be found here. This is also the location of the tannery and the best place to buy leather goods. John Nighthawke is a reputed adventurer not from the town, but he settled here after awhile and has made several trips into the forest and back again alive. He works with a couple of assistants from the town in the store and does well enough for himself to own a good, sturdy horse.

Korman's Smithy
Tarain Korman is a smith of some repute, he is known for his fine wares. Everything from farming implements to a greatsword to platemail can be obtained here.

Merchant's Guild guildhouse
While the merchant's guild holds little sway in the town they have a guildhouse here, mostly for the purpose of making it easier for members to sell their goods here. Althoguh due to town law they are forbidden from enforcing their own trade reglations within the walls or on the roads leading to the town. Only Vyrdanian trade laws apply here.

The Fletcher's Shop
Asten Starsent is the best fletcher and bower in the town, if one wants a good bow whether it be for hunting, adventuring, or war this is the advisable place to check. His goods are not very expensive despite their quality.

Estomere's Apothecary and Surgeon
Estomere Alsteran was a surgeon for the Vyrdanian legions for a long time and is very skilled in his trade. The older elf is also a skilled herbalist. His services are especially valuable as he is a servant of the god[ess] [insert deity's name here], the god[ess] of healing. Also as field surgeon he learned how to fight, and often finds himself as part of investigations as he knows how many knids of wounds are made. Also having lived up here for a long time he can identify what creature made what wound, it is rare that he cannot tell. Though he is a skilled herbalist he does enlist the aid of Mendara, a long term resident of this region and among the best herbalists ever to tread the trails of the forest.

Other locations in town

Northhaven
The origional keep has stood for nearly a century although the rest is considerably newer. Located ontop of a cliff that overlooks the town. Ontop of the cliif is located a thiry foot high stone wall with towers placed ever fifty feet and every third tower having a ballista mounted such that it covers a wide area. The fortress has never been successfully assaulted.

The news board and mercenary postings
A large board set in the center of town where messages can be pinned up, most of the part reserved for the legion is filled with postings for mercenaries or adventurers. There are also updats on recent news, information on special stock in stores, and general announcements.
(advice: if you're bored and want something to do, read the board, you'll probably find something)

~The Forest
The Great Northern forest is considered a dangerous place, between the abundance of bandits, the primitive {species based of Dungeon siege Krug}, and the countless varieties of monster that dwell within. There are several locations of note hidden by the leaves and boughs of the forest.

Notable locations

Barik's Cabin
The home of an old woodsman who has been in the region since before the town of Fornam existed. The cabin is built in a box canyon with a palisade set up across the entrance, this cabin has been at this spot for nearly fifty years and in the canyon which though relatively wide does not extend particularly far. There are several secondary structures scattered throughout the canyon.

Ruins of the Great Statue of Oterran
Little more than a pair of massive stone legs jutting from the ground and a field of rubble from other part of the statue. One of the arms can be found two hundred feet away, downhill and half buried. It is speculated that more of the statue that fell apart is buried than above ground. The only part in very good condition is a plaque read
"The Great Statue of Oterran
Erected to honor the hero who once unified the lands
May his memory stand forever"
No one knows who this man was, it is likely that he was a great hero of the civilization of which ruins dot the great forest. There are many other sites which reference this man and his statue.

Brightstone Cave
A massive system of caverns reknowned for the valuable crystals that grow deep within it and named for the phosphouresant fungi that grow through out it. However the caverns are frought with perils and only the shallowest of the tunnels have been documented. It is rumored that somwhere deep within the caves is a massive underground lake and a river to boot. It is not unlikely as there are many small streams that flow into the cave. There are rumors that it may connect to an even more massive cave system (like the underdark from D&D (actually, ripped off from the underdark)

The Grove of M'yrlia
A place only rumored to exist from some of the most experienced adventurer's to head out into the forest, they say it is extremely deep within the heart of the forest. Next to nothing is known about it, however it is referenced in several texts found in the ruins, and is believed to be the home of a being of considerable power and wisdom.

Burlian's Straw Mat (name credit to Jinxy)
This inn, further north than even Fornam, likely only catering to adventures, far ranging trappers, and explorers. The inn is of fair quality, but it isn't just some simple roadside affair. It is surrounded by a stout wooden palisade with several watch towers built into it. It is well guarded and serves as a base of operations for many adventuring corps


The Nighingale Estates: (crdit to Jinxy)
An old haunted burned out manor located at the heart of the Shadow Wood, rumored to be haunted by the ghosts of those who died when it was burned down by the owner's enemy. Not much grows, and the trees are twisted and black, many of them appear to have faces of humans, most of them afraid a few angry. The ground is as the ashlands surrounding a volcano, and the ruins of the estates rise up suddenly from the ground with no warning at all. It has been this way for as long as anybody can remember, and most people tend to avoid it...

The Shadow Wood
A place of sinister trees and foul beasts. Very few go there, even some of the world's greatest heroes are loath to enter the place. There are foul creatures lurking within it and a noticable change in the air. The border is clearly marked by an abrupt change in the trees, old bones, and an aura of fear. It is known that the Great Atinar Harde once journeyed there but, as he put it, unusual circumstances forced him to leave.

The road north
It is an old legion patrol route that is no longer used by the legion itself for much. However it is paved in some areas and as such provides an easier route through the forest. Burlian's straw mat is located about a day and a half from Fornam along it. Regularly placed, about every half day's journey along it are what are known as legionnaire's rests. These are circular palisades without a gate, only a small opening large enough for a medium wagon and easily defended by a small ground and a single watchtower capable of holding 1 or 2 men

The Rat's Nest
An area known to be inhabited by giant rats. This shallow cave is a breeding ground for them. The shere numbers have actually warranted a bounty to be placed on them.

~Recent events
Barik, the old woodsman has recently found a unconcious and injured young woman in the forest and brought her to Estomere for treatment. That was two weeks ago, She woke up a week ago much to Estomere's surprise and apparently does not speak common, in fact the lenguage which she speaks is not recognized by anyone in the town. Through gestures several rudimentry concepts could be communicated and over the intervening week she has learned some words in common. Estomere managed to figure out how to teach her what name meant, apparently her name is Kina. Over the last several days she has insisted on going out into the forest despite her injuries, which though mostly healed were still evident. However every time she came back unscathed, if anything better than before.
things to remember:
-niether Barik nor Estomere recognized what made the injuries, at first it appeared to have been made by some kind of klaw (one of the monsters in the region) however on closer examination Estomere determined it had been made by something slashing up, and klaws cannot do such a movement. It was not clean enough for a man made weapon and the manner in which they were applied does not indicate a sentient attacker. There are no other creatures in this region known to be able to make a wound quite like these.
-The legion commander has put a mercenary posting to gather information on what caused the injuries along with a detailed description of the injuries as he believes some new kind of monster has moved into the area.

Use common sense
Your CS must be accepted
all parts on the CS are required unless noted otherwise
Your characters are mortal, they can die
I may amend this rule list at any time and without prior notice
Do not godmod/uber/what ever you want to call it, you are unlikely to win every fight (running is often advised when you're outmatched)
If godmodding becomes a problem I WILL start using a basic D100 system in combat
You may only control NPCs limitedly
If you didn't do your required reading I will know, I don't need anything fancy to figure it out.
Respect other players

Advice
I recommend thoguh I do not require that you follow the law, it is a relatively small town with with an area not particularly safe to hide in around it, thieves will have a hard time not getting caught even in the dead of night (curtain walls are good for that. Especially well lit and patrolled ones). A thief will be imprisoned and murderers will be swiftly executed.
Madmen are not viewed in a good light, obvious displays of insanity may get one thrown out of the town or imprisoned.
Run if you're outmatched, if you have good relations with those in town you may be able to get some very powerful allies in a fight or someone who can hide you or if its a monster you can get 20 feet of stone, a heavy steel gate, and a lot of archers between you and it.
Fight in groups, not many people can actually win a fight alone.

When Estomere went with her out to the forest the first time she insisted he noted that she acted much more comfortable in it

Appearance: Blond hair, blue eyes, and a smile that can charm even the most shrewd of barginers. He usually wears an orange coat, and a black and white doublet, though when he's adventuring has he puts it, he wears a black cloak with leather boots and his leather armour. He usually wears black and red trousers in town, but brown trousers on adventures.
Bio: He's the local store keeper, but he is famous for his adventures in the world. One of the few to travel through the forest, and live. He often passes time regalling the youngsters on fair and carnival days with his tales.
Group: Adamantine Guardian, suprisingly.
Other: He's the brother of the soon to be famous Jinx Nightingale, their family previously owned the Nightingale manor before it was burned out generations ago.

Bio: I was found when I was a young boy, under an oak, by a young farmer. Before that I was raised partly by elves, then lived on my own. The farmer took me in his home. But 4 years later, the farmer and his wife, were killed by sicknesses.

Other: Wanders mostly in The Forest and diffrent forests... (( Duh,, Kinda.. )) Wanders down roads now and then, but ussually takes wooded paths. Stays in the Forester's Haven Inn And Tavern, mostly, but sometimes sleeps in the woods, on nice days.

(Probably should occupy yourself with another. Kerion gets a bit ... when you start without permission. He likes to moderate his threads make sure they don't get too out of hand. I remember this one collab we spent like 3 months on we had to shut down because the players went nuts.)

(If I felt like it I could create a Med. RP.... If you don't wanna lurk on the forums, try Tecmagdiam's Medevil Roleplay place, that place is usually good. Its one of the places I got my start roleplaying.)
