I plan on making a HOMEMADE nuke up for grabs.
I want it to have a good diameter of blast and possibly a high altitude.
Can anybody tell me? |

| Use radial geometry. It's specific on how you want it though. Use spherical equations for a blast radius I would guess, then possibly raycast inside your sphere/hemisphere? |

Okay,
I was thinking of Algebra-like equations on volume, but what am I to say since I am not as advanced in scripting. |

OK, so first you are going to want to calculate the total weight of the nuke along with determining the air resistance and weight that will be caused with the fuel. Next you will need to determine what fuel you will be using and how much of it will be used per second so you can adjust you tail fins so that it doesn't overshoot the target because of a decreasing weight due to the absence of fuel. Next you will need to acquire a nuclear war head in addition to a launch pad and HazMat suit. After putting on the suit, you will need to place the warhead inside of your rocket. Once it is ready, use angular geometry to determine the angle you will need to fire it at in order to hit your target. Next you will need to set the warhead along with the triggering mechanism. After everything has been prepared you will need to ...

Just force away from the object based on an exponential decay function of distance.
You're not getting what the point of Lua is if you're using Algebra in anything that doesn't need it. |

"You're not getting what the point of Lua is if you're using Algebra in anything that doesn't need it."
What do you think the purpose of Lua is? Mathematics are a tool that can be applied to assist whatever goal you have in using Lua.
Also, he's looking for reasonable numbers to use. This is an issue of balancing his game. It really doesn't matter if he uses a model of a blast radius and velocity, or if he uses an exponentially decaying function, or if he uses a more realistic inverse square function. It's about gameplay, and math can't help him too much here (well, it can do some things, but it's overkill). |

Varp, I don't actually think it is an overkill. I prefer a game which is realistic rather than one which is quite dull.
Even though not all games have to be realistic to be fun, yet I do recommend it to most game developers. Why do you think people are competing about which has better graphics?
Xbox or PS3? So graphics do play big role in gaming.

"Varp, I don't actually think it is an overkill. I prefer a game which is realistic rather than one which is quite dull."
I was talking about math in balancing games. It's overkill to create spreadsheets of data for every weapon in a game if you're doing something small (so, for all purposes in ROBLOX) and to use math to assign a (or many) value(s) to each weapon and determine its worth and such.
Also, ultimately, what every decision you make ought to come down to is not, "Is it accurate?", but "Is it fun?" (or, in a more general sense, "Does it add value to my program?")
"Even though not all games have to be realistic to be fun, yet I do recommend it to most game developers. Why do you think people are competing about which has better graphics?"
Game developers need to ask themselves: Does this game have any value with simple graphics? If the answer of that is "No", they have almost no reason to polish it. If the answer is "Yes", then ask yourself: Does making the graphics more realistic add value to the game? Is it worth the increased development time & increased system requirements? Will the computational power used for graphics force us to compromise in the main game?
Really, one of the faults I see with many game development companies is that they focus too much on graphics, and specifically, too much on realism. Graphics in games are an art & a science (the graphics can help direct the user's eye to important features). Realism is not necessary for either, but it seems to get a whole lot more development than the game itself ("If you click on a person, your gun should shoot him" doesn't take much development). I mean, games that were created with some limitation on resources (technical expertise, time pressure, technical limitations of the platform, etc.) often are a lot more fun than the ones that were created with nearly infinite resources because it's impossible to make a game whose only virtue is its graphics (if you try, you'll make a game that has no virtue at all), so you have to have an original idea.
(Oh, and ask yourself, "Is this just another FPS?" as well. It's really stupid how many shooters exist and how few of them have unique mechanics) |
