This thread is going to feature updates on a series of Roblox shows I will be broadcasting over 'that video website everyone's heard of featuring a personal pronoun and the name for a long cylindrical thing in its name' on my account 'thesimpletonthing'.
Some of the shows include: -Roblox QI -Roblox Robot Wars -Have I Got Roblox News For You -Roblox Top Gear (possibly) -Roblox Mock The Week (possibly)
If you're unsure of what some of these shows are, simply remove the 'Roblox' from its name and search it on Google or something. :P
Looking for guests to appear on the likes of Roblox QI, HIGRNFY and Roblox Mock The Week as well as guest presenters on HIGRNFY.
Moar updates coming soon. |

| Before anyone else says 'Can I be (person who appears on this show)?", these are Roblox versions of the shows and are not supposed to be replicating their real counterparts. So, in your case newbeaver256, you're a guest host on HIGNFY as yourself, and also a guest panelist on QI as yourself. |

---The Tournament--- Robloxia Robot Wars - The First War will have room for 96* robots, each grouped into 12 heats of 8 robots. These robots will verse each other in the first round head-to-heads; the winners of which go into the heat quarter-finals in head-to-heads. The winners of the quarter-finals go through to the heat semis, the semi winners go through to the heat final, and the heat final winner goes through to one of two series semi-finals. The series semi-finals follow a similar pattern to the heats, and the two winners of the semis go through to the Grand Final, where a champion will be crowned, and the 2nd, 3rd and 4th places will be determined.
In each heat and semi-final, there will be side competitions that main-competition entries and other robots can enter. These side competitions will come in two forms: Sumo and Football. In each side competition battle, two robots go head-to-head to find a winner, and then against each other until an overall Sumo/Football champion is crowned. Only 12* robots can enter either competition, so that 1 robot represents each competition in each episode.
*These figures will depend on the number of entries and, as a result, the number of heats.
The Sumo and Football Champions are awarded with 250 Tix for either competition, and the First War Grand Champion is awarded with 1000 Tix. There is no entry fee, and all robots that enter will be shown on the Channel TST broadcasts later on in the year. The prize money is divided between each team member, so if a team of 2 wins the Grand Final, each member wins 500 tix. (If a robot is champion in more than one category, the prize fund is reduced by 50 tix.)
---Building Your Robot--- There is no size limit for this tournament, however there is a "Jonateer Weight Measurement" limit which restricts your robot to under a certain calculated weight. You may calculate the weight of your robot before entering, and provide it alongside your entry, however we will remeasure it - so don't go about lying! Note: VehicleSeats and their bases are not included within the weight. Note: Despite no set size limit, robots may be classed under Unneccessarily Decorated if parts are slightly too big, and the robot may be modified to suit the needs of the tournament.
To calculate the weight of your robot, the volume of each part must be first calculated, simply by multiplying each of the three values X, Y and Z for each part. The weight of each part depends on the shape it is made from:
A = area of original part W = weight
"Part" A = W "Cylinder" A = W "Ball" A = W "WedgePart" 1/2 of A = W (Note: to get weight for other material wedges, use the current WedgePart weight as A)
For TrussParts, use the standard rule. Use the standard rule for SpecialMeshes and File Meshes, even if the scale has been modified. Invisible parts are only measured if they are CanCollide positive (cannot be walked through). Parts that are CanCollide negative are not measured, but may be classed as Unneccessary Decoration and may be removed.
Finally, add the weight of all these parts together to get the final weight. See below for robot weight categories.
"Antweight" Weight limit = 25 - 75 "Lightweight" Weight limit = 100 - 200 "Heavyweight" - minimum advised category Weight limit = 300 - 400 "SuperheavyWeight" - maximum advised category Weight limit = 500 - 600 "Walker" - also allowed Weight limit = anything up to 750
(Note: Most weights will be rounded up. For example, "Blackfish" weighs 24.664 but will still qualify for the antweight category, whereas a robot weighing 24.438 will not.) (Note: Clusterbots are allowed, however each section must be less than half the maximum overall weight. So, if you were entering a heavyweight clusterbot, each part should be 100 in weight.)
You can work out the weight and category for your robot yourself and can claim it by either a IntValue within the robot, or in the robot description, alongside whichever robot stats you want displayed on the show. This weight may be double-checked before your robot is entered to ensure that the correct weight was provided.
On many occasions it has been known that people will attempt to use other people's robots and modify them so they can claim it as their own. This is deeply frowned upon and anyone who enters one of these robots will be immediately disqualified. Attempting to enter one of these robots will result in a permanent ban from the tournaments.
However, many people choose to use an existing base chassis for their robots as it is easier and much simpler. This is infact recommended for this tournament, which provides a special chassis designed for this tournament. The chassis is built to suit the lightweight - heavyweight category, so if you're hoping to build a walkerbot, you may be on your own. On the subject of walkerbots, if the robot does not run on its legs, the robot will be classed as a SuperheavyWeight and parts will be removed in order to bring it down to maximum weight. Starter chassis (with thanks to mosher100): "http://www.roblox.com/Bigger-chassis-item?id=46227237"
As far as weapons go, you can be as creative as you want, as long as you remember two key points: - Weight limit: Each part of the weapon will count towards the overall robot weight, and will follow the weight guidelines, so remember to keep your number of parts limited! - No BreakJoints: For health and safety reasons, and for fair play, we are saying no to breakjoint weapons - that is, weapons that 'shred' off any unanchored parts of a robot oncontact. However, if you can design a gradual damaging weapon, we are not saying no to this as it is a new and more realistic damage system. So, remember, creativity is key, but just watch what you're doing!
---Entering Your Robot--- As mentioned before, in this world of crime and hatred we do indeed have 'theives' - those people who cannot be bothered to work for themselves and instead take our generous and sometimes-forgetful nature for granted. It is therefore recommended that, if entering a robot, it is entered via a private, secret account or given to Jonateer very, very quickly. A more secure entry method would be to save the robot to your drive and send it to Channel TST's email, which can be obtained in the profile description of "thesimpletonthing".
Teams can have up to 4 members, and each member can have any role in the team. You could have a captain, a driver, a tactician and a 'lucky mascot', or even just a driver/builder rolled into one.
You do not have to be a member of the Robot Wars group to enter, but it is recommended that you do join the group in order to keep track of progress and updates! Link to the group: "http://www.roblox.com/My/Groups.aspx?gid=154370"
---The Show--- The show will be run in a similar way to the original BBC Robot Wars, with one/two episodes per week. As mentioned before, the show will be broadcast once filming has finished, and will be broadcast on Channel TST, also known as "thesimpletonthing". Subscribe before you forget, and remember to tune in on the robo-action! |

---The Tournament--- Channel TST is hosting a series of Robot Wars competitions on Roblox in sequential series, separated every so often by a spin-off Robot Wars Extreme involving a series of mini-competitions. The Second Roblox War, the upcoming series, will have room for 32+ robots, divided into heats of 8 robots. The heats will take on a simple head-to-head format, with the eventual winner going through to the Series Semis.
The prize at the end of the Second Roblox War – for the robot who has won all battles up to the Grand Final – will be 10,000 tix* and a place in the Robot Wars Hall Of Fame, alongside previous and subsequent champions, such as Randomepicrobot, Worldwide Annoyance and Emeryville. *Subject to change.
In charge of running the competitions are: Jonateer, the main producer, newbeaver256, who is helping with entries and sorting out battles, and mosher100, who runs the Robot Wars group. These people will be the people to contact if you wish to enter any of the Robot Wars competitions.
---Building, Entering and Competing With A Robot--- Building a robot is very simple as long as you have the right resources – in this case: a decent, working chassis and a handful of bricks. Of course, as with many competitions such as this, there are several rules and regulations when it comes to building your robot: - Weaponry must be limited to no breakjoints or projectiles; this includes bombs, rockets and guns. Flamethrowers will be accepted, however they must cause only superficial damage and must only affect the flammable materials (Grass and Wood). Flippers are allowed as long as they do not use any of the velocities or body objects – motors are the only available option. As long as they follow these regulations, any weapons will be accepted. - Interchangeable weapons will be accepted. Robots can be entered with an array of different weapons, but all the available weapons must be declared when entering the competition. Also, robots cannot be modified once they have begun battling in the competition. - Parts on a robot cannot be CFramed. They can however be built using whichever build tools you wish – Build Mode or Roblox Studio – the latter is advised as this prevents the robot from being taken off-axis. - The robot must be built using a starter chassis, and must be in working order when entered. If we receive a broken robot as an entry, we will not take responsibility for its repair. We may, however, replace the master script if this is lost. On the other hand, we will not be expected to repair a robot if the problem is with the build. Building the robot is your own responsibility. - Robots must not be repaints or modifications of other user’s robots. We can easily spot a repainted robot simply because we know the Roblox-Robot Wars world inside out, and any attempts to enter a repaint will result in disqualification. This was attempted 6 times in the First Roblox War and therefore we are cracking down on it this time round. If you cannot build a robot yourself, you can enter a robot built by someone else as long as it was built for you. When entering a robot built by-request, you must provide the name of the user who built the robot, so we can credit them as part of the team. Failing to provide the correct builder’s name will result in the robot being disqualified. - There is no dimension limit, but there is a weight limit. Even though Roblox has no accurate weight measurement, we can weigh the robot using a generic Roblox weight measurement – studdograms, or sgs. The weight limit for a robot is 260 sgs, but as of now the weight cannot be worked out until your robot is entered. As long as your robot measures less than 8x8, it should be below the weight limit. Invisible parts will not count towards the weight as long as they are CanCollide-off. - Clusterbots are accepted. The Clusterbot still has to be under the weight limit and must be able to join up at the beginning of the game. Failing to enter a joined Clusterbot will mean that you must re-enter with a proper robot, or have to fight with only one half of the robot. - Walkerbots are accepted. Walkerbots are allowed up to 350 sgs for the weight limit, but the robot must run on its ‘legs’ or rollers. Claiming a robot as a walkerbot when it does not lie within the walkerbot regulations will result in the robot’s disqualification, unless it is below 260 sgs. - Robots must not be infected with a Free Model virus. There are plenty of anti-virus scripts in the Public Domain, and it is advised that these are used as a precaution to prevent getting viruses in the first place. Entering a robot with a virus will result in failure to qualify.
To run your robot, you will need a team. The team can have any number of members, although it is advised that you should keep the number low since, if you become Grand Champion, your prize fund will be split between your team members. A benefit to having more team members is that if the driver is unable to make it to a battle, one of his teammates can quickly replace him.
On the subject of drivers being unable to battle, we are trying to crack down on this, too. For the First Roblox War, we asked the roboteers to sort out their own battles, but failing to do so, we at Channel TST were left to do it ourselves, which resulted in a lot of ‘sub battles’. A ‘sub battle’ is when a robot’s driver fails to arrive for a match on several occasions and is forced to go out of the competition with a substitute driver. For the First Extreme onwards, we are putting in a rule that says if you are subbed for more than 4 battles, you will be banned from future competitions.
Upon successfully entering your robot – a fully working robot within the weight limit – you will be contacted and told about any updates concerning you, such as your Heat and first round fixture.
---Application Form--- This time around, entering the wars is different. Unlike previously, we are allowing the teams themselves to write the stats about their robot, via this application form that should be copy-pasted into a PM for Jonateer: Team Name: Team Members: Robot Name: Robot Weaponry: (List interchangeable weaponry if required, using a / to separate each weapon. Otherwise use commas.) Robot Strengths: (Please be sensible) Robot Weaknesses: (Please be sensible) Other Notes: (If required – previous success, age etc) |
