Hey everybody! I know this is kind of long, but just read it please. It might change Roblox forever if you do.
Most of you have probably noticed the many problems with the Roblox contest system. It’s no secret! It is so exploited and unfair that many people, like me, just avoid contests altogether. If you don’t know exactly what I mean here is a list of problems and their explanations:
1. “Vote to get plus accuracy” scam This appeared the day the contest system was created, and it still plagues every single contest today. With this system, people in the contests claim, either on their place’s title or on a decal in the cover picture, that voting for their place will give the voter positive accuracy. If enough people fall for the scam, eventually it becomes true, because so many people have voted for the place. This scam has become so rampant in the contest system that it is next to impossible to win a contest without using this technique yourself.
2. Judging a book by it’s cover This one is pretty obvious. Next to no-one visits the places they are voting on before judging them. This means that if your cover picture looks good but the game itself is terrible, it’s still quite possible that you will win the contest. On the other hand, if your place is the best place EVAH, but doesn’t have a good cover picture, you can easily fail in the contest.
3. Effort = fail. Free models = win. Despite Roblox’s efforts to eliminate this problem, if you don’t enter most contests quickly you will lose. This means that most games winning the contests are 99% free models. If you spend time building an epic entry instead of getting the place out as quickly as possible, you will usually lose miserably.
4. Accuracy stackers. Linked to problems 1 & 2 are accuracy stackers. These people just vote for the place that appears to be winning the contest instead of the place that is actually better just so they can get more accuracy.
These, plus other minor problems, ruin what could otherwise be a great system and source of fun competition. If nothing is done to correct these problems, the system will just get worse and worse. There still is hope though! With a few minor corrections to the system, and a little more screening of entries, the contest system could be the most fun thing on Roblox since epic duck. Here are the problems listed again with descriptions of what Roblox could do to fix them.
1. “Vote to get plus accuracy” scam
To fix this problem, simply make it against contest rules. Though a rule regarding this practice may not be very enforceable, the occasional name deletion and 200-400 point penalties of a few “plus accuracy” places should deter people from using the scam. Also, a report abuse system next to contest entries would help deter the scam.
2. Judging a book by it’s cover For a short time on Roblox, it was very difficult to get accuracy in contests without visiting both the contest entries first, but the feature was removed because it caused less people to vote for places. I propose that the old system be brought back, but in a new form. Roblox could make it so that playing both places causes you to automatically get some positive accuracy, whether you vote for the “Right Place” or not. Just because you disagree with popular opinion, it doesn’t mean that your vote wasn’t accurate. Roblox should also make it so that voting without playing gives you a maximum of +2 accuracy if you vote with the popular opinion, and does a LOT less in affecting the place’s rating. This means you can still get accuracy without playing the places, but you get a lot more if you do play, which would encourage fair voting.
3. Effort = fail. Free models = win. Fixing problem number 2 should fix this problem, because the cool places will get more votes.
4. Accuracy stackers. Fixing all the other problems above should help clear up accuracy stackers and make the people that are truly accurate pwn all others. =)
If by some miraculous way these problems were fixed I’d be so happy I’d probably cry. So spread the word! If you have lots of spare cash make an ad for a t-shirt that links to this post, or just post a link in your personal blurb. You can also try tweeting @Shedletsky on t.w.i.t.t.e.r, asking him to look at this. Do anything, but spread the word!
*Note to any administrators that may be reading this* You may think that most people don’t care about fixing this problem because so many people use the system and don’t say anything about it. But the truth is it’s downright boring right now. Though fixing it may take a bit of time, and not as many people will vote because it’s a bit harder, the new system will be a LOT more fun for both the voters AND the builders!
Thanks for reading

| Support if they did that I may try and enter contests. And I just pick the pace that I think is winning because thats the way its set up right now. (and thats the only reason b/c when ever I pick the place that I think is better its says -2 or -4 or something like that) |

| Agreed with the free model thing. They sould send everyone a notifacation (did i spell that right?) a week before the contest starts. It would give people a chance to put more effort into their places, thus we'd have less free modeled entries. |

| Also, for the title problem, they should NOT accept a place if the title is something like "Haunted mansion +2, +5 if played" Roblox could fix this problem by paying robloxians about R$ 5 a day for approving title names. |

How about this? They delete voting accuracy altogether. This solves all the problems. Instead of Voting Accuracy, they have Contest Participation. Here's how it works:
You click "Play and Vote" (the button stays the same) and you get the traditional contest screen. But, instead of Voting Accuracy, it says Contest Participation at the top. It's measured in points. If you don't play either place and just vote based on images, you consistently lose 1 point at a time, and the contest places' popularity will not be affected. You CAN go into negative points, and you start out at zero. If you play one place and vote, you get one point, and the place you voted for (depending on which one it is) gets either 1 point or 2 points in the popularity scale. 1 point if it wasn't played, 2 points if it was. If you play both places and then vote, you will get three points on the Contest Participation scale. The contest sytem will do its best to find places you HAVEN'T already played and exclude NO entries, giving each amount its "moment in the spotlight", but if you DO get a game you've played before, you have to play it AGAIN (as well as playing the other game) for your vote to count for three points in Contest Participation and 2 points on the place's popularity scale.
Now, of course, we gotta have prizes. There will be a prize for... 250 contest participation points, 375 contest participation points, and 500 contest participation points, in each contest. More if the admins want them.
How does that sound?

@ RobloxKid
That would work too, and it would probably be better than fixing the accuracy. |
