I've read MSE6's post about the rules. Like she said, it's not a full list, so I'm going to post some info you should probably know. Following these guidelines will probably rid you of warnings and bans (at least from the forum). Chances are you'll get a bit more respect too.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Don't personal attack yourself. It isn't reportable for being a PA, since you're doing it to yourself. However, it is spam, and as we all know, spam is bad.
-Don't make threads that are just for announcing an achievement you made. "I got the ice crown" and "2,000 posts! Woohoo!" are two good examples of achievement threads.
-Before you make a thread, search the forum for something similar to your topic. If you do find a similar thread, bump that up instead of creating your own.
-If you see a thread that doesn't belong here in RT, don't just post to say "wrong forum". A better thing to say (using a thread belonging in LWIM) is: "Sure, your place sounds like fun. I'll come. P.S. This belongs in "Look What I Made".
-If you accidently post a thread in the wrong forum section, don't post a copy in the RIGHT forum the minute you realize it belongs there. Instead, wait. Sometimes the mods are nice enough to move it for you. ^_^ If your thread gets locked (or deleted), go ahead and post a copy in the right section.
-If you see a locked thread, use common sense. Making a thread just like it is obviously going to get locked too, so don't even bother.
-Don't post just to say a mean comment. It's rude, disrespectful, and just plain nooby.
-Most people are smart enough to not reply on "inappropriate" spam threads. They also know enough to report the user who made it. Before you report the person though, look at the amount of views his thread has. If it's over 15, chances are someone already reported him. He only needs to be reported once. Several abuse reports will ban him just as fast as one. It more work for the mods, so consider using this method next you see an "inappropriate" thread.
-If you get a warning/reminder/ban for doing something that abides the rules, DON'T DO IT AGAIN. Also, don't complain on the forums if you get an unfair ban. Most bans/reminders/warnings are given out for a reason. Give the mods a break. They work hard enough. Don't make it harder for them.
-Try using good grammar. It's easier for people to understand, including the moderators.
-"I got a weird PM" threads are spam, whether you censor their name or not. Just don't post them.
-If you want to one particular person, don't post it on the forums. That's what PMs are for.
-If you make a thread that advertises your place (but you're not getting any views because it's in LWIM), don't make a thread in RT that gives the link to your LWIM thread. That's spam too. Instead, make it your temporary signature.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, that about wraps it up. Follow these tips, and trust me, they're gonna help out in the long run. Good luck. ;) |
