70's and 80's man. They've made so many songs that people hear but never take the time to look who the artist is. They have started many cool styles of music too. If you know one of thier songs, or like them, post below.

Generally, your age group is more interested in what everyone else knows, but little do they know..
..they're setting an example for younger kids.

Unfortunately this is very true. I'm in high school, and already see the effects of people trying to conform to be cool. Everyone does this to an extent, we are designed to try and mimic each other, there is actually an effect when talking to another person where we begin to unconciously start copying (mimicing) the other person's gestures and mannerisms. This is broken from when we lived in almost herds as primitive creatures, where following the leader could mean the difference from escaping the predator and living, or being eaten alive. However, in todays world, conforming to things like Pop Music, or Political Opinions is not always a good thing.

Thats what I'm saying. I don't try to be cool and copy everyone else's song choice. If I like a song or band, I like them and listen to them. I don't try to be cool and copy everyone else and force myself to like a cetain kind of music.

As a beginning drummer, I enjoy the songs because the drum beats aren't that complicated, so I can play along to some of my favorite songs without getting mad because I can't play some crazy beat like some of the other bands that I listen to drummers (Neil Peart... o.O).

I play electric guitar and sometimes keyboard. I can play every guitar note and vocal note of Dream Operator and a lot more. Dream Operator is SO fun to solo to, if you have the right amp settings.

For the record, a lot of kids these days listen to older music. The music industry is catching on to this as well, by trying to make new artists sound like how the older artists sound, remixing old songs and stealing the tunes, etc etc.

For Example. Many people say they like Adele because her song "Rolling in the Deep" reminds them of older music.

Also, if you have heard Lupe Fiasco's "The Show Goes On" and have heard Modest Mouse's "Float On" you should notice the similarity between the two.

Older music is becoming more of a trend among young people these days.

Idk what you guys are talking about, because nobody I know listens to music to be cool. At my school the type of music you listen to has nothing to do with how popular you are. And you are not automatically a loser if you like a terrible band such as Avenged Sevenfold. You guys must not understand that people are popular because of the personality, and not music.

Well, for the most part people do. If a band is recommended to you by someone who like, you are much more likely to enjoy that band than if it was recommended by say, the person who bullied you all through middle school. Not to mention if you see all of your friends liking this band, and you listen to it, you are going to feel unconciously pressured into enjoying them as well, because if you didn't that would set you apart from the group, something that nobody likes, especially teenagers.

Keep in mind though, all of these are speaking in generalities. Just because your best friend suggested a band do you does not mean you'll like it, and just because the bully recommended it doesn't mean you'll dislike it. It's all about what you're feeling when you first start listening to the band. Going into it with a positive outlook makes it more likely for you to enjoy it, just because chemically in your brain endorphines have already started running about, because you're in a good mood, and the opposite occurs when going into it in a bad mood. And those aforementioned moods are all the result of the interaction with the person (or people) who either recommended the band/song, or who you saw enjoying the music.

You should... I'm more a psychologist than a sociologist, but at the same time you have to know something about sociology going into psychology/psychiatry and vice versa.
