You gotta index stuff with numbers at the beginning of their names using brackets. This also applies to stuff with spaces in their names, and things with certain symbols in their names.
local a = Workspace["1"]
Note how I dropped the period before the brackets. |

Yep. But you DO need punctuation after it, for example:
Workspace["1Model"].Part
Workspace["Thing that has spaces"]:findFirstChild("PAI") |
