This thread is based off of a set of short stories that I'm in the midst of writing. (Please note, If I use a monster it will either be one of my own creation or it will be straight out of a 4th edition D&D book)
Barkhome has been a peaceful little village, few things of significance to bother it. Not a particularly well known area but still an important stop for merchants going one way or another, usually on their way to helm coast. Troubles have been stirring lately, a number of goblins have gotten a bit uppity of the past months. There are other things out there too. In the past week three people have disappeared, and the old man Gerard claims to hear strange sounds at night. When his business in town doesn't allow him to be back to his home by sunset he stays in the inn overnight. After seeing him fight off the goblin raid many believe it must be something of great power to keep him this close to town much of the time. Just last night one of the night watch claimed he saw red glowing eyes watching him from the forest, and one time he saw a strange, almost humanoid figure dart in front of the gate. He raised the alarm about this and it disappeared for the rest of the night he said. All that was found the following morning was a partial footprint. None could quite identify it from its obstructed nature. Town name: Barkhome Population: 239 Architecture: Most of the buildings are built in the massive trees that grow although not always very high. Defense: a guard force of 60, the town is surrounded by a palisade. Traveler accommodations: various travelers are welcome to stay for a tenday but after that are about as welcome as a snake. There are occasional exceptions. There is only one inn in the town and it is frequently very busy and it isn't very large.
Notable area features The great oak: a massive, 750 foot tall oak tree that rises from the forest floor. Located about a 4 hour journey to the east of the village. The old man Gerard lives there in a hut nestled within the massive roots. Clear water cave: a massive mostly unexplored cavern system which is known to have a perfectly clear stream running through it as well as hundreds of glowing crystals dotting its walls

rpName: rpAge: rpItems: (Must be medieval NO GUNPOWDER, please no magical items yet) rpPersonality: rpAppearance: rpBio: (must be at least a 6 word sentence) Group: (Villager, traveling merchant (caravan guard also classifies here), adventurer, (Admin/VIP): Order of The Adamantine Guardians. You can make up your own too, it just has to be realistic.)
Explanation The Order of The Adamantine Guardians is a group of knights/soldiers who have banded together to fight forces of evil and destruction. Though they are heavy handed sometimes. They are not well liked in the village but due to many strange events of late there numbers have grown in the area even though the villagers don't know it. |

RPName: Maxwell
RPAg/e: 24
RPItems: A pack on his waist, a firm wooden bow, with a quiver of steel tipped arrows.
RPPersonality: Adventurous, patient on the hunt/in battle, kind, loud outside of 'work', a good sense of humor.
RPAppearance: Tall (6 feet, 5 inches), lithe and slim build (some would say girl-ish), barrel chested, short black hair, dark blue eyes, leather gauntlets and boots, green pants, leather belt with a pair of reinforced rat fangs as the buckle. Usually, he wears no shirt, unless asked to. This is simply because, in his line of work, clothes are easily caught on branches and such.
RPBio: An adventurous man, who was once a hunter. He began to seek out interesting things about 4 years ago, and has recently arrived at Barkhome.
He built his own little cottage some distance outside of the Palisade, edging into the forest almost. He will go out and hunt at night, though he has stopped for a bit, fearing the mysterious sightings.
Group: Adventurers |

Gerard I hadn't slept much last night. Few do when something you fear stalks the thin gates of the town you sleep in. I had a guess of what it was but I could not tell yet. IT would not be wise to frighten these people so early in the day. |

| Maxwell was crouched low, beside the tracks that had been found. His eyes were narrowed, as he gently rubbed a gauntleted hand along the footprint, trying to make sense of it."Seems human, but... Can't be sure..." he muttered to himself, as a modern day doctor would while dissecting a corpse. |

| I walked out of the inn...My head was really hurting. I guess being on the run for sometime can cause a man to get jumpy, and that is just what happened. I had a bump on my forehead. I walked down the stairs and took a seat near the fire. "One glass of hot tea." I said rubbing my head. |

| I again set out from the town, for the second time today, to find what tracks I could. If I could find out what it was... |

| Maxwell grunted as he slowly stood from his crouch, dusting his pants off a bit. He straightened his gauntlets, making sure they were on tight, then his boots. Satisfied, he turned around and jogged back into the edge of the forest, following the small trail back to his cottage. |

| I walked outside. The fresh dew greeted my barefeet. "I have to get me some shoes." I said looking around for a cobbler. |

Gerard. I looked at the way the print went. I could not tell its nature. It left, via one of the side paths from the main (and only true) road. |
