You realize that this was brought to Congress originally when Obama was in office. It's not him. Congress is bringing the bill back. They're doing it because it didn't pass while the Obama administration was in Office. Now that there is a new president, they figure it's a new chance.

Trump's newly appointed FCC chairman has plans to do away with anything protecting net neutrality.

Yes, Chairman Pai wants it to go away but he also served as counsel for Verizon between 2001 and 2003, thus he is biased. Maybe Trump has different feelings.

matter of fact ajit pai's approach to net neutrality is exactly what #### ####### did during his time as president, which is a "light touch" approach that goes after legitimate cases of violations of privacy and neutrality rather than going after hypothetical scenarios that can have repercussions

"Who do you think aye's/nay's bills that the senate passes bloodpatriot"

fixed your sentence for you, that was awful

anyways it goes through the committees, the senate, the house's committees, the house, and then finally to trump's desk, which can then be challenged through our judiciary system

so in every literal sense, our entire government

if you want to cry about majorities in government bodies you shouldve NOT lost the 2016 presidential election, house elections, senate elections, and all of the special elections that followed

Trump did not introduce the bill, but he said he would support it. Also, chairman Pai was appointed by Trump. I definetly hope the bill fails, but I'm pretty worried. If you support net neutrality, google battleforthenet to send an email to congress. Millions already have.

"If you act before the fact, then you're preemptively saying that we think the marketplace is forever going to be the same and we can take account of every particular kind of conduct and say that, "you know what, it should be unlawful." And if the agency is going to do that, it has to recognize that there are severe potential unintended consequences.

First, you could be prohibiting a number of pro-competitive business arrangements. And secondly ... you could end up reducing investments. Companies might start to look elsewhere to invest if they think that the regulatory framework is too prescriptive.

After-the-fact regulation — which allows you to take action, again, based on actual harms that have been demonstrated in the record — is a much better way on balance to protect consumers. As opposed to preemptive regulation, which might seem appealing at first, but which has serious long-term consequences.

And the economic literature is pretty rich on this, that preemptive regulation is appropriate when there's a major market failure — when the Internet is broken. And the point I've simply made is that, if you look at the Internet that we had in 2015, we were not living in some digital dystopia. There was nothing broken about the marketplace in such a fundamental way that these Title II regulations were appropriate."

if you people would actually delve into pai's viewpoints instead of proposing the common strawman of "google will spy on me and steal my internet history and sell it to asians, therefore DESTROYING FREEDOM", maybe you'd be slightly less >wrong<

he's not even going after the broad concept of net neutrality, he just wants to do away with specific and outdated concepts (from the 30s) that obama put back into place like Title II regulations

also in one of his interviews

"There is significant evidence that investment in infrastructure has gone down since the adoption of these rules.

For example, there is a study by a highly respected economist that says that among the top 12 Internet service providers in terms of size, investment is down by 5.6 percent, or several billion dollars, over the last two years.

And amongst smaller providers as well, just literally this week, 22 Internet service providers with 1,000 customers or less told us that these Title II regulations have kept them from getting the financing that they need to build out their networks. And, as they put it, these net neutrality regulations hang like a black cloud over our businesses.

And so what we’re trying to do going forward is figure out a way that we can preserve that free and open Internet that consumers want and need and preserve that incentive to invest in the network that will ultimately benefit even more consumers going forward."

so the argument that theyre allowing the establishment of monopolies is out as well because the repealing of these restrictions would help smaller businesses equally if not more than the larger ones.

big businesses are cutting investments by 5%, but small companies can't invest period

I, for one, have no issues with my search history being sold to the chinese.

In fact, I would gladly sell it to them myself for a cut of the cash! They'll certainly be impressed with 1000 pages of roblox with a couple youtube tabs mixed in.
