Hey, I haven't messed around in ROBLOX studio or even played ROBLOX in years but I decided recently to work on a new game. In the game I added a basic Ice Shard tool, a fire blast, and an air blast. These tools work beautifully in studio, I love how they work, but in play mode they don't work at all.

I understand it has something to do with an inability to find the local player? Or something along the lines of there being a difference between loading a game in a server and in studio.

This has become a regular thing; I can't seem to get any of my spells to work in Play mode and I have no idea what to do.

I did not write these scripts for the tools myself, but if anyone has any idea what the error might be coming from I can edit them.

Thanks guys!

Sounds like a server/local issue, Is filteringEnabled? if so that is most likely your issue.

If they're old scripts you should fix them up, remove deprecations and use new methods instead of old ones.

Would they still work in Studio if they were outdated though?

Yes. Some old scripts does work in studio but not ingame because the scripts are outdated.

One thing all the tools that don't work in Play have in common is that their tool icon has a little script next to it. I've never seen that before, what does that mean?

That means they are HopperBins. HopperBins were deprecated a while ago, do not use for work.

So are hopperbins totally useless then in play mode? Is there no way to make them work?

You are free to use HopperBin as much as you please, I can't tell you otherwise. But it would be wise if you just use a normal Tool and convert your HopperBin scripts in a Tool instead. ROBLOX will most likely delete HopperBin someday.
