I think I sounded different than how I meant to say things in my last thread, so I made this new thread to explain it a little better.
Right now, the United States Military is the most funded Military in the world. We spend music 610 billion dollars on the Military every year. This is more than the next music 8 countries spend on theirs combined (Some of these countries are actually allied with us, so that's even LESS to worry about).
Free College in the United States is estimated to cost music 47 billion dollars per year if it becomes a reality. We could take this much money out of Military Funding and instead give it to Free College. Please do not worry, taking this money is nothing and will not shake our position as the Military Super power of the world. Even if we took this money, we would still be funding our Military far more than all those other countries; thus, we would still be on top and have the best Military.
This is among the biggest choices in United States History, but eventually, it will have to be made. We need to stop preparing for a large scale war like all the other countries attacking us, because it simply will not happen. We don't need a Military this big, we over fund it when we could be funding Free College instead.
It will not effect us being on top, we will still be strongest Military in the world. The math is out there. If you wish to look into this, I suggest you look it up on Google.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, we could cut back on funding other Programs that are not doing well, and instead, dedicate it to Free Education.
This plan will greater influence the younger Generations to strive to do better, and help poor Children get a better education. It will open the gates to their families, so they will not have to spend thousands, sometimes hundreds of thousands of dollars on College.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, I appreciate people who leave criticisms of this plan (Constructive Criticism) because then I will know the flaws in it. So far, I don't see many.

Also, Admins, this is NOT off topic. It is meant for the political groups out there, particularly Night's United States of America.

If we cut the US Military funding in half, we would literally be able to pay for both Free College AND Free Health Care. I'm talking about taking way less than that.

I personally think it is a great idea and 47 billion out of 610 billion really will not affect our military too much. I do not see any flaws however I am sure there are some out there.

free college is nearly impossible in America without taxing anything else. and this is a group about a game that trys to be realistic and has its own form of goverment, its not a group about discussing politics

If you need more money to pay the teachers take more money out of the military fund.

hahahahha
'47 billion out of 617 isn't that much'
That's almost 10% of their budget gone.
Also, if you start subsidizing colleges, then competition between schools will not matter as much. More students will start going to post secondary, that 48 billion a year will raise.

Man, No they wouldn't. I want the cost to rise for Education. People won't expect the Military's funds to be cut for everything.

Taking music 10% out of their funds still does not matter. They will still have way more money than all the foreign military's. It will not take us down from the top.
Also, for paying the professors, that should be the College's job. Maybe they can still charge the Students some, to pay the Professors while everything else is still covered by the "Free College" cut.

The US military is severely underfunded for the job we have it do. Saying otherwise means you fundumentally misunderstand the US military as well as geopolitics in general or you're an isolationist, which is terrible for other reasons but tleast not objectively wrong. Taking out 47 billion is much harder than it looks if you want the military to keep functioning.
Also, it's not 47 billion, it's 70 billion according to the AEI |

People saying it will make it harder for the Military, that doesn't matter as long as its even harder for the other foreign ones. It will always be hard. What matters is we can still face any threats. This plan will allow that.

Night, maybe one day in the far future, there won't be a need for Military. As for now, I hate for this to be a fact, but it is necessary to have a Military. I wish the world could live in peace, but it just can't happen. At least not right now.

you've triggered the neocon
Our military is a good deal stronger than Russia's or China's, but not THAT much stronger, and cutting our budget could make it much weaker. You see, they get more per dollar than we do in terms of military output
you see, other major nations get their equipment cheaper -- because competetion doesn't happen in the military market for obvious reasons and we all know its cheaper to make goods in China than in America
let's keep going, countries like Russia or China have a much lower living wage and pay their military people much much less. Not to mention that we have expensive free healthcare for our military men and women as well as a myriad of benefits -- including free housing if you're marr####### cheap college for people in the military
America has a job in the world, and that's to be the world police. If you think we shouldn't be that, then that's another argument I'm happy to have, but to be the world police we're not being underfunded. Putin is willing to send troops in to restore their empire if America is weak and China would quickly assert dominance over Asia. The world would not remain at peace if the United States cut its budget by the amount you want to because the fact is, the money needs to come from somewhere, and when it does, it'd probably be coming from Operations and Maintenance of troops
Where else could it come from? Pay of personnel? We already pay our soldiers not-too-amazingly, no one would join the army for minimum wage. Procurement of weapons? Well, taking 70k out of that would mean we get no new weapons. Research? And lose our edge over other nations and actually have a weaker army technologically?
I'll throw you a bone here, there's one way we could cut the military budget and not be weaker. There's a bunch of nonessential bases around the country that could be shutdown without effect to our safety, but there's a catch to that too
You see, these local communities revolve around those bases and would be economically devestated. It'd be ridiculously unpopular, and while I'm fine with it, no one in Washington would do that and lose votes
And even if they did do that, it wouldn't nearly be 70 billion

Tot, you see, none of that matters. We can simply bomb anyone who steps out of line. We have thousands more bombs than any other country.

| Red, you see, you're an idiot without a real response to my argument. If Russia or China 'steps out of line' you think we could bomb them? Would you like an ICBM shipped to your house? And actually, Russia has more nukes than us |

If anything, all those countries should pay a tax if they want a "world police".
