People with real talent waste their talent and decide to work for some money hungry person who thinks money gets you everything in life
I see people who make games and the first thing they bring up is "how are we gonna split the money?"
how many people on this site are left that dev for the purpose of making something that they themselves can enjoy without being driven by the money
some people make games fort he sheer purpose of making a game that they and others can enjoy together but get swerved in the wrong direction because of the money that they all of a sudden start to rake in
years ago i remember asking my friends why they make games and they all answered me with the same response "because its fun" what ever happened to these days? |

Sure, a lot of people make games for fun. But no matter how fun something is, peoples' time is valuable, so if someone is going to profit from your #### ####, it's only fair that you get your fair share.
Discussing how to handle the money early is VERY smart. If there's one thing that can get people really mad at each other, it's disagreements about payment. Having something like a contract can save all parties from a lot of worry and discomfort, so it's an essential step in ensuring that making games KEEPS being fun.
Sure, this is Roblox and most people on here are just little kids doing things for fun, but I'd argue that a contract of some sort is even more required because of that. Kids are unlikely to handle disagreements in a matu###### that minimizes damage to everyone involved, so if something does come up everyone is likely to get hurt.
Of course it doesn't need to be super formal or legally binding or anything like that, a verbal agreement is more than enough. The important thing is that everyone knows what everyone expects (including themselves), and that everyone has considered what happens if, for example, a project makes it big and ends up making a lot of money.
It just helps to avoid a lot of grief. |
