A game such as this has been attempted many times on Roblox before, but no one seemed to be able to make this kind of game very good. However, with new capabilities on ROBLOX, we're able to create a great first person survival horror puzzle game.
Our project is called Endling. Endling is based off of the Penumbra and Amnesia games made by Frictional Games. Just like these two games, Endling will play similar; having the game revolve heavily around physics, such as picking up, carrying, and throwing objects. The game will also put a lot of aspect on horror; mysterious creatures lurking in the dark, and you are completely defenseless. You must evade these monsters and work around them. If you are caught, your only chances for survival is to use your wits -- run or hide.
The game, just like Penumbra and Amnesia, will have a similar inventory system. The inventory tab will display all the items in your inventory, as well as display your health and flashlight health. There will also be a notebook you can access in your inventory, which the notes will serve two purposes: Helping you solve puzzles by either giving hints, riddles, codes, etc, or by providing more evidence as to the backstory of the game. Notes can be obtained and kept in your notebook.
Rough concept of the inventory tab can be seen here: https://www.roblox.com/library/1123497456/rough-concept-inventory-tab
The monsters in the game will be R15 animated AI's that will have pathfinder and will be programmed to patrol certain areas. Each monster will behave differently and have their own independent sounds. Each monster will have their own unique features and abilities.
You can see a video on a monster prototype here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nySTTbBp2lo
Endling will also include some things you normally don't see in many games, such as original soundtracks. The soundtracks are made by our music producer, known as Bored. Each soundtrack will fit with the environment and the situation. For example, each environment will have its own ambiance. When a monster is patrolling the area, a different soundtrack will play that will make you feel as if you're in danger. When you're being chased, a panicy-sounding audio will play. The music in the game will give great immersion to the player into their environment.
Here’s a soundtrack that’ll be featured in the game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3jBJ-xFb3Q
A typical Roblox horror game isn't very scary because the blocky-look to it. So what Endling aims to do is use textures and 3D models to create a realistic-looking environment. Very few games on Roblox that look realistic aren't actual games, just display cases. However with Endling, this will probably be the first realistic looking game that is actually a game! Be warned however, the use of textures and 3D models may cause longer loading time and may harder for older computers to run. This game will also be specially designed to work with the new upcoming lighting prototype for even more realism.
Here's an example: https://www.roblox.com/library/1123586914/office-with-prototype
The game will also include a variety of puzzles for the player to solve. Some of these puzzles the player may have to solve while under tension. For example, you may have to solve a puzzle with a monster looking for you. The puzzles in the game will all be logical puzzles that some will be easy to solve, some will take some hard thinking. All of these puzzles you will have to complete before you'll be able to proceed onward with your destination. You will have a lot of things to help you solve puzzles, such as notes, dialogue on objects, voice calls from the antagonist, etc. You will need to use logical and complex thinking in order to solve these puzzles. However, if you're stuck on a part, a complete walkthrough of the game will be posted on the Endling YouTube channel at your convenience.
The tools you use in Endling can serve all sorts of purposes. However, the main tools you will be using are the flashlight and glowstick. Just like in Penumbra, the flashlight has limited battery life but can provide a greater light source than the glowstick. The flashlight has a longer range of light, but the direction of the light is more narrow than the glowstick. The glowstick is a light source that has unlimited life, but has a faint glow so that you can only see objects that are nearby. Batteries can be found throughout the game for the flashlight. Alternatively, flares can be found in the game. Flares are a temporary light source that is like a glowstick, but are a lot brighter and has a full radius of light unlike the flashlight. However, you can't carry a lit flare with you. Lit flares will remain stationary on the ground where you decide to drop them. Flares will also have a certain amount of time before they burn out. Flares can be found throughout the game just like the batteries.
Finding useful items throughout Endling will be vital for your survival. So making sure to check rooms of any useful items, including inside of desk drawers, lockers, behind movable objects, etc. You'll want to take the time to check your surroundings and not rush through the game. This will make the player remain in their environment for longer.
The horror aspect of Endling will not include many jumpscares. I personally believe that having a horror game revolve around only jumpscares will make the game dull over time. So instead, we'd like to focus on different kinds of horror, not just jumpscares. Players who have claustrophobia will not have a good time crawling through dark, narrow vents or caves. People who have the fear of the dark will be horrified to hear a monster lurking around in an area that is pitch black. Players who have a fear of spiders will have to run for their lives away from hordes of tarantulas. These are just a few examples of the many kinds of horror players can experience based on their own personal fears, since we all find different things scary. The soundtracks in the game, alongside with environment, will also add up. Every environment will have its own different eeriness.
Maybe I've said too much? If you're interested in joining the Endling Development Team, feel free to add me on Discord. Make sure you tell me who you are and why you're messaging me. My username and number on there is Xizzy#5932
(We’re currently looking for scripters, music producers, 3D modelers, artists, and voice actors) (Why volunteer? Because creating this game is a fun project that we do on our spare time as a hobby. This project will feel more like a job than a hobby if we decided to pay people. We want people who want to help for the fun of it)
We need as much help as we can get on this project. Audio files are not cheap to upload, any donations would be very appreciated! We need these donations so that we can make this game have much diversity as far as audio goes. Any extra money will also be used to gain additional help. Anyone who donates will be qualified to play Endling early once it reaches Alpha.
You can donate to us here: https://www.roblox.com/library/686512065/Donate
Follow us on YouTube, and any donations will be gratefully appreciated. Make sure to leave your thoughts below! https://www.roblox.com/games/46023801/WiP-Endling

@Ignorable
If you're wanting to voice act for the game then feel free to send me a message and I can get you set up. I do ask for anyone wanting to voice act to be 15+ and have decent mic quality.

Oh, and the link to the OST no longer works. If anyone's interested, here's a OST that was supposed to be in Endling but was rejected.
