I wish the higher staff realized this. The forums are just terrible... like seriously and the main factor to that is post count of course. So many people would leave if post count was removed and that's good because did they really contribute much to the community if they're going to leave over a stupid number going away?
I want the forums to be great again.

the forums are terrible because they removed half of it to cut costs
postcount never really had anything to do with it, if anything it was an incentive to be active |

Hi, I'm fastlane250. To some of you I'm probably rearing my annoying head again with another one of these threads, but I feel like the first two have run their course. It's time for a new discussion on this subject.
Due to recent events caused by someone on these forums, an example has been set that you can spam or use bots to increase your post count, and get away with it. In the almost four years I've been posting on this site, this has never been a problem until now. I may not really care about post count these days, but I've gone from #1 to almost #6 in less than a month now due to random people coming out of nowhere and either using bots or abusing the way things work around here to disguise their spam as legitimate posts. So good at abusing that reporting seems to have no effect at all.
Post count has ZERO meaning now. The difference between someone who posts actual content that contributes to discussion here and someone who coasted their way up with posts comprising of single words, numbers, (that problem has been mostly addressed by now in Forum Games, thank you nobledragon) or just plain nonsense cannot be determined by how large someone's post count is.
And yet that's the way it is around here, with people being judged based on solely a number alone, and not by who they are and how they act. In the worst cases, it leads to ridicule. I should know, I've received loads of taunts on the forums and from private messages because of all this madness, so much that I've had to set PM's to friends-only so I can avoid them.
This has to stop. The way things were in years past does NOT work now. The top 100 poster system (while not working at the writing of this post, a list is still maintained by a user who I will not explicitly name) has only served to create a forum hierarchy based off of someone's post count number.
I believe that removing the post counter will have the following positive effects: 1. Users will no longer be ridiculed or ostracized on various parts of the site because of how large or small their post count number is. 2. More emphasis will be placed on post content, enriching discussion. 3. There will be less of an incentive to spam posts everywhere just to raise your count. If anyone is going to spam then, they will most likely be doing it with malicious intent, which is usually caught by moderators.
If a suitable replacement for the post count can be made, (I've heard of rumors of a reputation system) that would be really nice.
Another big problem is people using spambots. They (or should I say the code to set up one) are/is used to rapidly create replies to spam and boost one's post count. I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sure irrelevant posts such as "hi", "not sur" and "lol" on multiple threads over the span of a couple hours isn't legitimate posting.
I can't really go into much other detail as I do not really know the exact story behind the botting code, and if anyone can come forward and help explain how it works on this thread, that would be great. (might be javascript somehow able to be executed on the site, which... can that even be stopped?)
What I'm really asking for here is a straight answer. Before on the previous two threads there were comments from mods here about considering taking the actions described. I know the idea has been acknowledged, but I just want to know if ANYTHING is being done or in the works about this. I'm not trying to demand anything, I would just like to have a polite conversation with a dev or admin or SOMEONE who knows what the future plans are for these forums.
Finally, I'm going to talk a little bit about myself. Some people think I'm doing this just because I've been passed. I'm not. One thing about me from real life that I never really show on this site is that sometimes I tend to worry or care about other people more than myself. It doesn't show very much, but it is here. Once you've realized that you've helped contribute to a problem that can either hurt others or cause them to resort to taking unscrupulous actions, there's a desire to try and make things right. Yes, I've posted a lot, and at one point I worried about quantity over quality. That's something I wish I could go back and undo, but I probably have a better chance of setting things right now, rather thing trying to change the past.
I implore you, whoever you are looking at this, be you admin or just a user, to take action. The madness of all of this must end. Right now we've got around 5 people botting/spam it out for top spot. Why let that continue?

But honestly though, the forums have become terrible over the course of the past years. They should just delete all of it, and maybe re-add it in the future to a better community than ours.

Remove post count, this is what fastlane250 wanted.

I wish the higher staff realized this. The forums are just terrible... like seriously and the main factor to fastlane250 that is post count of course. So many people would leave if post count was removed and that's good because did they really contribute much to the community if they're going to leave over a stupid number going away? I wonder if somebody actually read all of this. Poor guy. I wish the higher staff realized this. The forums are just terrible... like seriously and the main factor to that is post count of course.
