I have been wanting to get into scripting for a while now but it just seems really hard and seems like it wouldn't benefit me much. The main reason I brought this up is because someone was asking for help in the Game Design section with something they scripted, and they were asking why it didn’t work. I made a few good guesses, but they got back to me and said it wasn’t my way, but thanks for trying. This motivated me and made me want to learn how to actually script rbx.lua. So this is where I am at now, I don’t feel like it would be very useful because LUA isn’t really used anywhere besides GMOD and ROBLOX, and they have their own different types of LUA. It might help me learn more coding languages in the future, but I don’t really know. The upsides to this are that I could help people when they needed it, I could script things for games, and people could pay me to script for them. It would take awhile to do these past three things though, as I would have to learn LUA, and keep on practicing for months before I could actually become good at it. I don’t know if I want to do that, so I am looking for a good or known scripter to comment on this and tell me if this has benefited them and if so, in what ways. I’d also like you to reply if this has not benefited you just so I can have more feedback. Thanks.

Yes scripting can benifit you very much. You could be hired for robux, make your own game, etc

Your stance on learning LUA is a very very common one, and entirely understandable. Although, there are a variety of great reasons to learn LUA, and is why it's the language I most recommend to people new to programming, and wanting to know where to start. I'll give you a few reasons why:

- LUA is a very straightforward language, very similar to python, and is a great language to learn first. After you learn your first language, and get the general programming concepts down, you can easily learn essentially any other language, and apply those same concepts. So LUA is a great place to start, and will easily help you through to learn any other language you intend to learn in the future.

- Studio provides an easy to use 3D environment that can run on low end pcs and teach you early on 3D world programming concepts. In general mainstream development, companies will typically use the engine that would be easiest to use with their intentions (which usually ends up being unity engine, or a modified version of a lower tier engine). The problem with unity, and most other 3D engines, is that they usually don't run well on low end pcs, and they're generally fairly difficult to pick up and understand. Studio helps this by providing an environment that; runs well on low end computers, and teaches you general 3D concepts that you can learn early on and apply later on when working with unity + other engines when pursuing other things.

- Its very profitable. In the recent years, roblox's playerbase and economic stance has grown to such a point, where people are making millions off of their games. So the argument of "why learn rbxlua, which can only be used in roblox and potentially gmod, when I could learn c++ and get an actual job" becomes redundant. In mainstream development, it is extremely hard to get a game to pick up and do as well as you can do on the ROBLOX platform. ROBLOX provides a great advertisement service, a straightforward platform to upload and use, and the player base and economy to go with it.

- The ROBLOX platform provides a straightforward way into mainstream game development. The connections, portfolio, and experience you can create with creating games on the ROBLOX platform is insane.

In summary, learning rbxlua is easy, will help you learn any other language easily, gives you an easy to use and very big platform, teaches you 3D world programming concepts that are difficult to learn elsewhere and will be applied in mainstream game development consistently, and can make you a LOT of money. So I'd obviously recommend you pick it up. I doubt you'll regret it. It's always the first language that will be the hardest to pick up, but from there, you'll see all the doors ROBLOX can open for you.
