There's no suggestions and ideas subforum anymore so I have to post here
This thread probably isn't relevant to most of the forumers here at Roblox discussion, but it is a very important element to the trading community of Roblox.
Roblox has recently made expensive limiteds such as the archduchess of the federation and white sparkle time fedora which would obviously have done well as a limited item but the archduchess failed utterly and the fedora will fail more than likely as well because of the timer that roblox has put in.
Just to give some context: archduchess of the federation has more than triple the amount of owners it would otherwise have (87 versus 25 archdukes), and, the same goes for the fedora, most likely. (Projected 300 versus 100 sparkle time fedoras of any other color)
Items such as these will never succeed with a timer of an hour or two, especially f the price is put at something obnoxious high like 100,000 for the fedora or 150,000 for the archduchess hat
Identifying the problem:
The problem is that limiteds with a timer are always a bad investment no matter how good it looks or how highly it is demanded
I'm going to refute some points most people make when arguing for a timer
1. Everyone gets a chance instead of just botters
It is Roblox's responsibility to keep the site well functioning and clean of rule breakers. It is also a common misconception that 100+ users running bots are online at the same time at any given moment. This number, in reality, is more likely less than 5. Also, you can't fix this problem by ruining the experience for every other trader, essentially creating another problem
2. There's a smaller chance of missing it
With a 2 hour timer it would only matter if I was eating, showering or was nearly done with school/work when it was released anyway. None of those scenarios are actually very common, and the randomness is part of the fun and the kick that I get from it. If I were sleeping, or had just started school or work I would have missed it anyway because even a 2 hour timer is too short to ensure me not missing it. This is also very contradicting because initially I would've bought the white sparkle time fedora as I can afford it but now I am intentionally not going to buy it because I know it will be a terrible investment. So by saying you won't miss it, I am missing it.
3. If you don't like it, don't buy it
Roblox has made it very clear that they will not make any more expensive limiteds with low stock anymore like they traditionally did. I am an active trader and investor on Roblox and this is very disappointing, as none of the big items with a timer have succeeded in the past, so I know it is a bad idea to buy those kind of items. Knowing that there won't be any low stock limiteds anymore, am I supposed to never buy new limiteds anymore? What is the point in making them?
Roblox should continue making big limiteds with low stock (as in, 100 or less) instead of limiteds that will be sell and tradeable after a set period of time of a few hours. The low stock concept was an amazing idea which balanced the good looking and the bad looking limiteds. Bad looking ones would struggle and fail, while the good looking ones would rise and succeed. With the timer, everything hopelessly fails, even very pretty things like the white sparkle time fedora.
A few possible solutions:
1. Make the timer very, very short
Sparkle time fedoras with 100 stock usually sold out in around 5 seconds. I know that sounds very unfair but you're either there to buy it or you're not. And if you're not, that's tough luck, and there'd always be abother time. But now, there is no "next time" because every time is a bad time to buy a newly released big limited. Making the timer short ensures rarity which plays a very important role in determining the value of a limited, so this way newly released limiteds don't have to always fail
2. Remove the timer and return to making good items with low stock
This is the most logical and favorable solution.
I wrote this at 12:30 am (yes, I stayed up for the labor sale just to see a gigantic failure of a limited that I sold a lot of my items for) on my phone, so please don't mind any spelling/grammar mistakes or sentences that make no sense
I genuinely hope that this thread will make a difference and I'm sure that the trading community will support me on this area as they have shown frustration with the current situation as well. |

eh I dont see that happening anytime soon
i mean looking at prae that g0t 1k+ buys in what a span of a few days i assume? (wasn't around when it came out)
if kids see something they like; they will want it no matter the cost; sure they might get bored with it but what's done is done
they enjoyed their item in some sort of degree |

i agree,
but...
Roblox selling more and getting rid of the overflow of robux in circulation > Helping out the tiny percentage of people who trade on Roblox
*At least that's how I imagine they see it.*

As someone previously stated, this was a counter to botters, even though botters will still bot limiteds regardless of if they'r timed or stock based.

GO TO s&I NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR THIS APPIE SERIOU- oh wait lol
"It is Roblox's responsibility to keep the site well functioning and clean of rule breakers. " btw totally agreed
there are people abusing the system and duplicating limiteds and roblox does. not. care. at all. take for example this guy who duplicated #2 thru #7 of the WSTF https://www.roblox.com/users/111226783/profile if it had limited stock that would be 5 people less who couldn't buy the hat legitimately |
