ill explain it this way the typical order of operations doesnt have a "set on stone" order for what to do when you're faced with both multiplication and division (specially when they forget the parenthesis)
the problem itself is poorly written so there is no clear answer.
you can go both ways 6/2 and then all of that multiplied by 3
or
6 over 2(3)

Using the PEMDAS you do 1+2
6/2(3)
then 2 times 3
6/6
answer is 1.
so i was wrong its not 7 its 1

The answer is 1, I believe, according to the order of operations.
6÷2(1+2) =6÷2(3) =6÷6 =1 |

| both are correct, depends on context, so convert the division to a fraction in compliance to the context, solve the denominator first and complete the rest |

| Never mind, I retract my assurance in my answer. I guess it sort of would be 9. |

PEMDAS
6/2(1+2)
Parentheses (P) first
6/2(3)
Multiplication (M) next
6/6
Division (D)
1 |

Pemdas does apply here, but you need to realize that division an multiplication have the same "order," and in that case, you would start from left and work right.

PEMDAS does not mean do multiplication before division. You are supposed to work from left to right when doing multiplication and division. There is no ambiguity here.

@Victoria, that's not working from left to right, that's working from right to left. The correct solution would be this:
6÷2(1+2) 6÷2(3) 3(3) 9
