Re: Why didn't ROBLOX just remove forums altogether?

They virtually serve no purpose at all and are a cesspool of spam and trash. There is not a single meaningful conversation or something you can acquire necessary information from.

Honestly, I disagree. There are - hard as it is to find - a few beacons of light that depict intelligence and reason. Yes, most people on ROBLOX aren't sensible enough to post worthwhile conversations - but it is wrong to say there is no one left worth talking to.

@Skipper

Usually those threads don't last really long and are extremely hard to find. They get flooded away by a rain of trashposts, so there is nothing we can really do about it. I understand, there are some people with a capacity to share their guidance and ideas, but most of them either quit or are barely active, as from my experience.

I ask for help on the Scripting forums all the time. I find some very helpful people there. In fact, at least 75% of replies to those threads are productive and relevant.

Excuse me for my impoliteness, but you seem to be quite the pessimist. The forums are as creative and idea and important an asset as any on ROBLOX, and deserve not to be removed altogether, but to be changed for the better.

That's my opinion, anyway.

@SaIubrious

Maybe I was a little extreme when I said to remove the entire thing. Sure, forums can be useful if there are requests for something, in your case it's about scripting, but other than that, forums serve little to no purpose at all. You won't find any discussions about features and news on RN&D, same story was on ATR and clubhouse forums too.

The only "discussions" we have are usually flame wars with people who can't identify a troll if their entire life depended on it.

I agree that some sections of the forum are more productive than others.

@Nuclear

I remember when people thought mods listen to S&I. I am glad that one was removed, 90% of posts were mostly bait and WNTS even though mods insisted on reading the rules so hard.

Well global chat used to be a forum with loads of discussions like what you're looking for, I think they removed it because they didn't want children talking about serious topics

What a dumb reason, hahah. GD wouldn't work today anyway, as the newer times bring generations that are losing their opinions and are centered to live the social life, not the life life.

I find that very sad. Global was indeed very useful, and it was a way for the children of this site to learn about how to express their opinions, become open-minded and learn more about the world.

This forum is only for ROBLOX, so discussing anything else is against the rules. I know, that's really annoying, but it's true.

I really appreciate when I hold actual conversations with people. I honestly wish more threads were like this, where you can share your knowledge and bring the insight of your thoughts. Unfortunately, a lot of people on this particular subfourm lack the basic coordinates.

Okay, I am quite strong-viewed on this topic. Yes, the removal of forums would have been somewhat of a benefit in certain areas. However, if forums were removed, a hell of a lot of games would be flooded with the newer, less-sensible people.

Yes, forums have been introduced with a batch of less-sensible people - but a few intelligent conversations still remain. Frankly - the whole of ROBLOX; any multiplayer game in fact - is a way of expressing culture and ideas. Without the forums, the few intelligent conversations that people do have would be scattered across the whole of ROBLOX - making it ten times more difficult to talk reasonably.

@Skipper

Bear in mind, portion of the community which possesses common sense, or better said "uncommon" sense is in a very low number. Not to mention the fact that forums alone make up about 1% of the entire ROBLOX population. That way, it's extremely hard to find a forumer on an average front page game, even harder to find the superior one.

I am constantly fighting in my head to figure out the way to make an IQ test mandatory to access forums somehow, although that idea is a bit unrealistic.

@KingDiglett

the thing is, the forums provided quite an interesting hobby for many people, including myself

if they just removed them altogether, a fun pastime would be destroyed for so many people

and you also have to remember to balance the good threads and the bad ones

I'm from OT, which is considered one of the most "toxic" sub-forums, but I still met a whole bunch of people I enjoyed having conversations with and made friends with

@Forgen

The point of this thread is not really aimed towards the entertainment forums provide, it's rather about the actual discussions (As the RN&D description implies). I don't really see the purpose of posting here for fun, because of heavy restrictions and filterings you get here. Compare ROBLOX forums to any other forum on the internet. The latter are far more populated, have more user liberty, ability to have avatars, signature photos and many more.

Subjectively speaking, OT was not a very good place, but hey it's my experience. For 3 years I spent there I've seen none of well thought conversations, and the only "discussions" I had there were flame wars with moronic trendies with their cancerous "memes".

I have no idea what you're talking about.

I was on OT for only 8 months and I had great experiences with fun people, and honestly, I don't believe you if you say you couldn't of had ANY well thought conversations with anyone, because I had plenty

but I do respect that it's just your experiences, but your experiences seem like ones that are rare as hell, considering the short amount of time I had on OT compared to yours

@KingDiglett In my experience of forums (which is quite mush, considering my post count) - I have found that no sub-forums introduced anywhere at any stage will actually commit to its function. With that being said - what are we meant to do?

Replying to your original statement, and your response to my first comment: I agree that it is hard to find meaningful and useful conversations. However, I have a little method which I use so I can keep what looks more interesting and intellectually challenging. Forums, even though they have been commandeered by the newbies of the site - are still the ONLY place that the fraction of intellectuals can hang out and talk for a bit.

What you have to remember is that without forums, there would be virtually no meaningful conversations.

@Skipper

I'd recommend you moving to other forums. ROBLOX has a terrible moderation plan, lack of users and thread quality. I moved, and I feel better, find a place where you can discuss important things and enrich your self awareness. ROBLOX forums are just too kiddy.
