Nope. Ryzen is stomping on intel atm.

And with Ryzen 3 out there's really no reason to get a Pentium anymore.

I still say the Pentium is quite a steal, especially if you have a really tight budget. Also, Ryzen 3 doesn't have multithreading technology.

True, but if you're buying a computer for THAT low of a price you should honestly just be buying used parts, e.g. an older intel quad core.
Pentium dual cores have reasonable performance and good IPC for the price but having a dual core chip will just completely brick your computer in the next one/two years when games won't even run with a dual core (or won't run without errors). Some games are already unplayable without a quad core CPU now.
For not game usage then yeah, it makes sense for a school/office buying a bunch of computers for office work or whatever (as they have to buy new obviously).

Yeah, but neither does the I5. (which directly competes with the Ryzen 5, the Ryzen 5 having 4 cores 8 threads)
The Ryzen 3 is competing with the dual core i3's (2 cores 4 threads). The Ryzen 3 has 4 cores and four threads, so the only CPU of a good value proposition is that Pentium like someone suggested below, but if you are buying a computer that cheap you should probably be buying used parts lol.

@Argent True but the extra 2 cores that aren't present in the core i3 really help with multitasking. I've upgraded from my core i3 4170 to a Ryzen 3 1300x and it is alot better than my older ### # ################# ################# spent • https://forum.roblox.com/Forum/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=217363482#217364088

Don't get the wrong idea, I love Ryzen 5, and I'm planning to upgrade to the 1600 this Christmas (along with a new GTX 1060 6gb and new case fans), I just don't think it's fair to compare a lower end choice like the Pentium to higher end CPU's like i3's or Ryzen 3's.

Honestly, I wouldent get too hyped over it though. AMD is not "CRUSHNG" Intel. AMD is just making competetive CPU's that are usually on par or slightly worse/better than intel's counterparts. I love competition because it is always better for consumers, but intel isnt being "Defeated" as you guys say it is.

I'm glad I waited, because that really sucks Then again nobody thought AMD would just become really good out of nowhere, considering how mediocre the FX CPU's were

Yeah, the difference is though the AMD Ryzen counterparts to the equivalent Intel CPU's only have slightly lower IPC, have more threads (or even more cores) and are typically quite a lot cheaper
So yeah, until Intel drops prices/comes out with the next generation, there's honestly not much reason to buy an Intel CPU right now.

"i9 overheating issues" That's what thermal paste and ## ### cooler is for mate. Plus, may as well do what I'm doing and get a Ryzen 7 1800X. "Big Bird this is Bravo Six we're on our way out! On your feet solder! We are leaving!"

What I mean is that it will still run hot even with good cooling solutions. It's just a badly designed architecture in the same way that the FX 9000 series was bad It's a 140 watt CPU lol

Guess what? get a higher watt PSU then, if the wattage is too much, problem solved.
If someone's going to fork out money for an i9, they'll probably have liquid cooling installed regardless.
The Ryzen series are good, but poor optimisation was, and still kind of is a big problem.
Plus thread ripper sounds awful.

If ryzen can match/beat intel with poor optimization, imagine what will happen when games are well optimized for ryzen
