it's a weird question, I know
I've been designing unis since I joined this site so I cannot ever really understand the perspective of a leader who wants to buy uniforms.
why are you all wishing to pay a high amount for a uniform? is it because you can get a custom created asset that perfectly matches your clan? why not copy one?
just sorta interested in your thoughts. i have never paid for devs so i can't truly understand but would love to hear from you all! |

| Stop being so hostile. Oh, and OP: Copying uniforms is often looked down on by other groups. But.. personally I designed my own uniforms that look awful but do the job just fine. |

idk bruv the quality of the uniform is definitely important because you want something someone thinks they look cool in also uniforms have always appealed to the roleplay aspect of a clan, back then it was huge nowadays its not as important but still wanted to be present although, the fact that uniforms are at exorbitant prices now is definitely an even BIGGER turnoff
i was thinking earlier about how the entirety of the clan community is growing up per-say, the uniform makers have gotten much better over the years, along with all other forms of GFX and development, its definitely impressive.

i can see why that makes sense yeah
personally for me the best part about being a uniform maker is seeing them used and being the distinctive object that represents the clan
it's really kinda awesome |

Honestly, people just like to look sweet while they fight. It grants them, as one said whom I forgot the name of my bad, a roleplay aspect. Game of thrones in particular. A lot of groups I'm aware of have actually stopped selling them and instead put givers in their place.
From my point of view, I make uniforms now which correlate to the environment and help break your silhouette - actual camoflauge. It's a little tricky sadly, though the payoff is a far more immersive experience. That's really the underlying factor; immersion.. |

| uniforms provide an identity and allow people to express themselves, just like the clothing they wear in real life. it's all about the vibe, for example with VAK it's helghast so everyone automatically thinks bad and evil |

Identity as a group
That and some people just look at it to be necessary for a group, even-though it isn't in the end

A part of me wants to say it's about forging a visual identity.
But given how weak a lot of the ideas commonly thrown around are I'm not so sure about that. "Hey look, it's another set of armour that looks like a bunch of randomly shaded shapes! in two colours!" |

What blob chan said.
I guess it's also the fact that stealing a good looking uniform from another group probably means the uniform is good and recognizable, and people probably don't like the shade that comes with being that cheap.
It isn't expensive to buy a normal uniform anyhow, so I don't see why people would completely opted out of doing so.

so it contributes to identity while also amplifying the roleplay aspect - really cool
@blob & kiritsugu
yeah i think that's a big issue nowadays. i'd like to see more stylized pieces of work that really stand out but it just doesn't happen... |

there's several reasons for this, but the biggest reason would probably be for identity/representation purposes because it is a very important way to depict the clan's theme and image.
in response to wishing to pay a high amount, that's a result of the designer community itself imo. since people have been quitting and lots more of the remaining designers getting really better at uniforms the prices have gone up alot which by now most clan leaders have learned to accept which is why they're often willing to pay highly.
"why not copy one" is quite a negative suggestion because it's heavily frowned upon and can be damaging to a clan's image/reputation, especially a well-known uniform and even more so if recognized by former members of the clan that uniform once belonged to.

Having everyone in the same, unique outfits gives a sense of identity and unity to the clan.
Also that having good uniforms is a major selling point for recruitment. If a clan doesn't have good uniforms, I'm not joining!
