so my other three subjects starting from September will be maths, geography and literature, and i'm trying to get a language in there
i was deciding between russian and japanese and obviously chose japanese
but i can't find any past papers/exam boards that do it, aside from a "starting from 2018" exception
so is it possible to study it at A level, i've only seen gcse courses being offered rip

i'd STRONGLY recommend taking at least one science to couple with maths, preferably physics
what career do you have in mind? |

a levels available depends on the college.
and you'll want to stay local so i guess you might be out of luck.
however, i do know that if teachers can speak it, you can do a separate course on it, but from what i've seen it's only people who fluently speak the language already who do that.

nah antagonise, i'm adept at all subjects aside from science lol
it's the reason i left it out, i can't do science at all
i want to have a variety of options that i excel at and actually enjoy studying
i was going to initially pick history as well as it matches literature and geography
as for my careers, i want to be either a university professor if these A levels go well or something to do with managing travel agencies or just travel in general - in both languages will be a use, it's why i'm picking it over history

| well in that case i wouldn't overtly recommend doing maths - it's no doubt a good a level but it's a very tough one that couples best with science so if it's not directly relevant to the courses you're looking at studying then it probably isn't worth doing |

i've thought about that but in my sixth form maths and history are in the same block meaning I can only pick one
and i prefer maths over history, but even for me doing history, geography and English literature would be too much writing |

| initially in a levels i chose english literature history geography and geology, i switched from geography to music about a month after if you're looking specifically at travel english language might be more suitable, although i've heard that subject is really really boring at a-level and a lot of people i know dropped it after AS i personally recommend keeping your options open and researching university courses - i picked mine with a half-hearted commitment to studying archaeology in mind, and then at christmas time i switched to wanting to study geology. having only one science means ### #### done by to get good offers at university to study it, so i'm having to work twice as hard as everyone else now so make sure you know what you're doing, and don't let your GCSE results throw you off mentally (you'll be picking your A-level subjects literally minutes after receiving your results) |

yeah i'm not picking english language, it's an easy subject but tremendously boring as i've heard from several people now
and we can't switch anymore, the new A levels you can't drop, you pick and stay with them until the end of the two years where you sit both AS and A2
i did 3 of my GCSEs early last year and they were AAA* so i shouldn't have an issue with anything aside from the odd bad grade in Science, which i'm never studying again anyway
but yeah, i've got a plan and if i was committed at gcse, then these options should be ideal |

yea dont pick maths or english literature unless you are highly motivated and passionate about both hard work and the subjects
they are hell - learnt it first hand from literature, you really have to be a book person or you can't get by.

dude symbol as a weeb i get most of my vocabulary from visual novels lol
my English teachers told me to read books, i decided to read VNs, got the highest grades in mocks, hopefully the same thing happens on results day
but i don't mind reading the actual books themselves, aside from poetry which bored me - but then i got used to it
but yes, i do adore both literature and maths and get good grades in them, so should be fine

i also had a fairly negative experience with english literature - i am a book person so i didn't particularly struggle, but after i decided on geology i kind of lost interest in the class because it seemed superfluous, plus i knew after that i'd be dropping it at AS (and universities don't care about AS grades anymore, only predicted grades for your main A-levels)
also, just a warning - in a literature class you'll invariably encounter people of the most insufferably pretentious manner - the kind of stereotypical liberal arts students that consider themselves geniuses and more "in touch with their feelings" than everyone else no lie - some people in my class made me want to vomit on occasion, so make sure you're open minded
also be prepared to have to write about things like patriarchy and privilege - in literature you'll be studying pieces that are social commentaries from liberal/progressive standpoints, so if you're a hardcore conservative 'broflake' you might not be able to stomach it |

also as advice - understand that gcses are the easiest thing you will do in life, and do not get stressed
first year of college will seem like hell in comparison, as it's 10x harder.
you'll find out in second year that the first year was only purgatory, you are in hell now.

yes symbol it's precisely why i don't understand how people who choose all three sciences and maths can cope at A level...
i mean maths is fine personally, but i'd kill myself if i had to study that combination |

i agree with antagonise, you will bump into extremely rude and overly opinionated people
this is often "indie girls" who want to relate all aspects of life to the oppression of women
for english lit i had to read 2 books, a novel, and learn 30 odd poems. you only get so much time in class, you have to do the majority of work in your own time.
i did not of it, thanks to spark notes - a site that summerizes all books, chapters etc helping me to escape with a C with only really opening the books properly during the actual exams.
