my university sells used hospital computers for $30 - $50
I need a new Linux development machine because I refuse to install proprietary drivers on my main computer, but want to play with Vulkan again and all (and also give nouveau developers some help with reverse engineering the proprietary drivers w/ that program they released to do that).
They're HP 8300 CMTs (with the i5 PRO processor), but I want to stick a GT 1030 and some extra RAM (and a hard drive) in them.
Worth the ~$200 with those extra components added in?

I mean I feel kind of hypocritical saying this since I built a PC, but I regret it tbh.
Would rather have that money back in a heartbeat.
Don't by crap for games, that's money you can't really get back and it's just waste of time. As you go off to college and stuff like that, you'll wish you had that money 100% |

Well, I'm not really wasting money on games, it's more of getting a PC so I can take a class on game development/design and avoid a fine arts credit with something I'd actually probably enjoy.
The problem is, I refuse to use Windows for game development, and the class has us write our own game engine, so...
(We test the games on CentOS of all things anyway)

harb, well then buy something with windows and have that for class work. Idk what class you're taking and what you do with it but if it's just learning and writing code, you don't need anything that special. |

why would I do that when the class has games run on CentOS..?
