How about the Aquabats? I started with Fury of The Aquabats, I think it's they're best album and get the debut album whenever you please, than also listen to Floating Eye, Myths & Legends, Charge, and Hi-Five Soup. The Return to Fury is more of ska punk with a bit of surf rock, though Return is a more of simply ska and more primitive sounding, while Floating Eye and Myths & Legend is punk rock new wave, while Charge features more synthpop and Hi-Five Soup is lot more electronic sounding and pop-ish sounding to the point where people describe it as pop punk.
They are a lot more stranger, eclectic, and experimental up until Floating Eye while past Charge is more commercial sounding while still being weird. They're material is all appropriate clean fun, Floating Eye is darker and Hi-Five Soups is childishly lighter, though they're debut has a slightly inappropriate song with no inappropriate words with their Pinch & Roll song but it's a normal average thing.

They also include B-movie stuff, love songs, some odder songs, though starting with Myths & Legends it's less B-movie and strange stuff, and Hi-Five Soup is devoid of B-movie stuff and dorky love songs, though still charmingly dorky like a milder version of Myths & Legends.

Tonightless, if you want to try their songs first Super Rad, Martian Girl, Playdough, Pizza Day, Pool Party, Fashion Zombies, The Shark Fighter is good. Awesome Forces and The Legend is True is quite good, but didn't enjoy them as much as the previous songs I mentioned. Really anything on their Seriously Awesome! Live in Pomona, Feb. 2003 setlist (Serious Awesomeness on Wikipedia) is good and one of their best songs, except for Danger Women and Story of Nothing (though Nothing is good, just not as spectacular)

I actually liked Legend Is True better live, I've heard it in their EagleClaw episode and I was disappointed when I got to listen to it on Hi-Five Soup.

Also, Aquabats don't really scream except for I Fell Asleep On My Arm which is a nu metal parody. If you're really worried about not wanting to freak anyone want, Charge and Hi-Five Soup is good, as on the previous albums like I said can be really weird.

I agree with that, I don't like songs where it's screaming throughout. One reason why nu metal is listenable type of metal, it only screams in the chorus.
