depends how much is it being raised by. raising minimum wage increases nominal income, but is not the same for real income.

the minimum wage should only raise at an equal value as according to inflation periodically
it should never be increased dramatically
u cant have high wages and low unemployment
better that everybody gets a little bit than a few people get a lot

Minimum wage is a bad idea because it means I can't just do a small regular job for someone on a frequent basis legally and it will just force no skill jobs like mcdonalds till staff into unemployment bc mcy d's will just find ways to automate the work using machines for a lot cheaper. People who are currently unemployed could be in work making small amounts, while not great it's better than having no money. |

i've read an article about seattle and how they have a 15 dollar minimum wage
and a manager who has spoken to many other managers in the area said that none are hiring fewer staff due to the increased minium wage
ALTHOUGH in some restaurants menu prices have raised and they have instituted a 20% service fee

i agree with you mostly
however i just want to know what you think about those who are incredibly smart & can't go to a college to get a good job because they can't afford it and their job at mcdonalds doesn't always keep a roof over their head
what do you say to those people?
i'm not being rude i respect what you said completely i was just curious what you would do in that situation

@Hemerine
They might not be hiring less staff, but they very well might not have money to invest into growth of the company due to massive budget costs from inflated staff costs.
Would you like it if I told you "Hey, you can only buy a pencil for £5 or more." No. So why should employees be told they can only employ staff for a certain price? Employment is a voluntary process, both parties have to agree. If someone wants to work for $14 in Seattle why shouldn't they be able too?

the case of such is dependent on population which is why certain scandinavian countries succeed in almost socialist environments becuz their population is tiny compared to the us. seattle has only a population of 600k, and is homogenous. the united states is a population of 300 million, and is not the same throughout. for example, seattle and topeka are two vastly different types of cities, where minimum wage affects each city differently. one being a case of monopsonies.

| I personally think, some jobs such as mcdonalds (certain positions in it) should have the minimal wage. Currently doing work experience in the UK and the retail store which I work at, some of the people there DESERVE more than the minimum wage. I have been helping them for 3 days now and they try so hard. It's hauling in really heavy stuff and tagging every item individually. It takes a lot of strength and is really hard but the guys doing it put every bit of their effort into it. They do much more than a mcdonalds worker in a day... So much more |

I say not all work will be enough to support a roof over your head, that is the reality of markets
Problems with university costs and employment are another matter, if you want to discuss that you can send me a message |

"if you are smart and can't get into college, you aren't smart"
plenty of people cant afford to go to college. many geniuses end up at their community college because they cant afford. in the case of Ramanujan, a great mathematical influence in number theory, never went to school.

"if you are smart and can't get into college, you aren't smart"
oh yeah it's totally not the massive issue of forcing a big debt upon yourself to pay off when you're in the part of life when you have almost no money whatsoever |
