i think religion is an outdated concept that was only around to explain what we now understand through science, math, etc. and that had impaired scientific advancement because it was seen as witch craft and resulted in an age of little scientific progress.

| Generally against religions. I don't really dislike christianity, but I took a look at islam and all the things that make me revile islam are latent inside christianity too. So generally against most religions. |

if i was shown proof of one, then i would believe it

"but in the end as long as you aren't hurting anyone, you do you as long as you're happy." yes but considering 1 in 5 is a radical and they dont exactly label themselves its easier to be against religions as a whole. |

i'm not an atheist but I'm not... how do I put this, "traditionally religious" either. Not quite agnostic either. But I suppose you could compare a lot of my "religious views" to atheism anyway so I'll answer.
I really think that the overwhelming majority of religions are misguided, outright wrong, or some other thing that essentially means 'negative'.
If there is a higher power (which there probably is, given the paradox that the universe spawns from*), then by all means, we are intended to interpret and understand motivations and function and overall purpose of life. Why create a system which would (inevitably) spawn intelligent creatures otherwise?
Of course, all of this logic starts and relies upon the premise that we're not a mistake in the first place, but by definition, can an all-powerful being make mistakes?
Religious rambling aside, I think it's fundamentally foolish to take anything without questioning the living hell out of it.
* Everything eventually came from nothing. Energy condenses into matter, but where does that energy come from? If from a trans-dimensional wormhole, well, now where did THAT energy come from? etc. etc. etc. ad infinitum.

"Everything from nothing"
There wasn't nothing. There was an small point of infinite density which expanded rapidly.

"There was an small point of infinite density which expanded rapidly."
Which then begs the question, where did this small point of infinite density come from?

I will believe in a higher power when they show themselves and display clear proof of their existence.
To the peaceful people that believe in a god, I completely understand and I'm glad you've found something that gives you hope.
To the people that use the idea of a religion for acts of war and cruelty, you're what causes some to hate religion and see it as an excuse to do harm.
Conclusion: I'm fine with what people believe in, however I can't believe in something there is no proof of. |
