The purpose of arguing against religion, at least for me, is to get people to question their beliefs. The whole of religion essentially takes a certain set of beliefs and puts them beyond dispute. My goal is to break the dogmatic thinking that frankly hinders intellectual progress.

How is it a hindrance?

“Worldwide, more than eight-in-ten people identify with a religious group,” says a new comprehensive demographic study of more than 230 countries and territories conducted by the Pew Research Center’s Forum on Religion & Public Life.

It hinders intellectual progress, as I stated. Certain religious sects will either attempt to accomodate incompatible ideas with science or will flatly deny scientific facts.

Consider, for example, if a cult existed that worshipped a golden magic pony. Now, there is no empirical evidence indicating that this pony exists, but because it cannot be proven to be true, the followers in this cult hold that the pony truly exists. These people then proceed to launch a campaign against scientific facts derived from observable occurences.

It is quite absurd, but nonetheless this same scenario exists on a macro level albeit with different gods. Religions of the past have died out as human knowledge progresses, and someday the same fate shall befall Christianity and all other modern religions. I would argue that the sooner this obstacle is removed from humanity's path, the sooner rationality will govern the world.

"Certain religious sects"

basically invalidates your entire argument

you state that "certain religious sects" follow what you explain in your post. these are not all religious sects, therefore your argument has no real basis.

No. I stated the following:

"Certain religious sects will either attempt to accomodate incompatible ideas with science or will flatly deny scientific facts."

This isn't true of every religion, hence why I didn't use the term all religions. Certain religious sects, such as secular buddhism, hold individuals who do not believe in gods and do not hold beliefs contrary to scientific facts.

However, all religions who subscribe to the idea that gods exist *are* incompatible with science and this was the main subject of my previous post.

Therefore, your statement that my argument is invalidated is not true.
