| Some places offer unequal pay to woman and men. And, if you have seen the news at all lately, you'd know about a huge issue concerning woman's rights to a very important subject. |

Using the statistic that women make 78 cents on the dollar as evidence of rampant discrimination has been debunked over and over again. That statistic doesn’t take into account a lot of choices that women and men make—education, years of experience and hours worked—that influence earnings. If we want to have a fruitful discussion about a gender wage gap, we should have it after the comparison is adjusted for those factors. In a 2013 Slate article, Hanna Rosin, author of The End of Men, for example, wrote:
The official Bureau of Labor Department statistics show that the median earnings of full-time female workers is 77 percent of the median earnings of full-time male workers. But that is very different than “77 cents on the dollar for doing the same work as men.” The latter gives the impression that a man and a woman standing next to each other doing the same job for the same number of hours get paid different salaries. That’s not at all the case. “Full time” officially means 35 hours, but men work more hours than women. That’s the first problem: We could be comparing men working 40 hours to women working 35.

| @OP In an article written by ##### ####### a physicologist and graduate from Illinois University, he states the following: "Did you know that in 2015, women working full time in the United States typically were paid just 80 percent of what men were paid, a gap of 20 percent?" Basically, what he explains here is that recently, women working full time, have been shown to be paid 20 percent less than men. His data comes from an analysis of a study done by the U.S. Census Bureau back in 2015, showing it to be fairly reliable. |

Some women physically cannot work more hours to make the gains that men do. According to Pew Rearch, many have to take time off work to care for families. However, some women polled for the study stated that they did the opposite, they worked longer hours in order to care for their families. But, even with women working longer hours and with women taking time off, there it still a noticeable pay gap between men and women. A small percentage of men and women polled stated that it could be from discrimination, but overall, the real reason is due to many factors combined.
We still have a pay gap, and being unable to work more hours is one of the many reasons why. |
